![]() Deep Space AegisWith the conclusion of the Dominion War in 2376, the unstable alliance between the major powers in the Alpha Quadrant appeared to almost collapse immediately. Differing views and opinions about each one's role in the occupied Cardassian territory lead to several small skirmishes, which threatened to cause war on several different fronts. It was in this time that diplomats agreed that all parties involved in the destruction of The Dominion should have a role in the maintenance and rebuilding of Cardassia. ![]() With terms including the implimintation of Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Bajoran, Cardassian and Ferengi technology, the station's crew would consist of officers from every major power. Operations would take place thru an orbital space port, better suited to help coordinate efforts on Cardassia Prime itself. There was only one huge problem...time. Initial estimates showed the station construction could take upwards of two years to complete. These figures failed to put into account logistical and supply line issues that were making traffic around the Cardassian system almost impossible. With conditions for those living in the core of the Cardassian Union failing rapidly, all involved understood the situation could not wait years but barely even months. Therefore, the treaty included a last minute change that allowed for the takeover of a former Dominion facility, with the hope it would be able to provide the first steps in stablizing the ravaged planet. ![]() Deep Space Aegis was in operation for a little more than five months before it was decommissioned. Operations were at that point transferred to the partially completed space port in orbit. The facility itself would go thru approximately ten months of upgrades after the transition, first serving as the Embassy of the United Federation of Planets to Cardassia and being given to the Cardassian Government in 2381 for their own uses. As of 2385, what once was Deep Space Aegis remains a diplomatic complex in use to do this day. |
