NFL Playoff Picks

40 posts in this topic

I'm actually surprised this hasn't been posted yet. But, oh well, I might as well start the thread up. Let's see some of your picks for who is going to win in the playoffs (Since we all know my mid-season picks did not fair very well). :)

Let's start with the Seeds.

AFC Seeds:

1)Indianapolis Colts(1st round Bye)

2)Denver Broncos (1st round Bye)

3)Cincinnati Bengals

4)New England Patriots

5)Jacksonville Jaguars (Wildcard)

6)Pittsburgh Steelers (Wildcard)

NFC Seeds

1)Seattle Seahawks (1st round Bye)

2)Chicago Bears (1st round Bye)

3)Tampa Bay Buccaneers

4)New York Giants

5)Carolina Panthers (Wildcard)

6)Washington Redskins (Wildcard)

Wild-Card Match-ups:

Washington at Tampa Bay

Winner: Tampa Bay. (The Redskins are peaking at the right time, but that Bucs Defense is pretty amazing. That and Simms is maturing at QB, which is good.)

Jacksonville at New England

Winner: New England (The Jags are good, but they're still an injured team. That and the Patriots are peaking at the right time on Defense, and they have some guy named Tom Brady at QB ;). I don't expect Jacksonville to knock them out of the playoffs.)

Carolina at New York

Winner: Carolina (I think the Giants are a great team, but they have been struggling the last few weeks. If Carolina comes with their game on, they'll dominate, if not the Giants will win.)

Pittsburgh at Cincinnatti

Winner: Pittsburgh (It seems to me that the Bengals are hitting that end of the season wall a lot of young teams hit i.e. The Giants. This team hasn't gone to the playoffs in a long time, and that will prove to be a disadvantage. Expect the Pittsburgh defense to dominate here. I still think the Bengals are a great team, and are going to be the early favorites to win the Super Bowl next year when they are ready for it.)

Divisonal Playoffs (As per my picks. The 1st seed plays the lowest seeded Wildcard winner, and the 2nd seed plays the highest seeded Wildcard winner. Confused? Good):

New England at Denver

Winner: New England (I think Jake "The Fake!" Plummer is going to choke in the Playoffs, big time, and it'll cost Denver. New England will have that confidence factor going into the game, and I think it will lead them to their third consecutive AFC Championship appearance.)

Pittsburgh at Indianapolis

Winner: Indianapolis (We saw how this match-up went the last time; expect it to play out the same. The Pittsburgh Defense should be able to rough up Peyton Manning though, but it won't be enough.)

Carolina at Seattle

Winner: Seattle (Seattle is very explosive on offense, and their defense is ranked fairly well. Carolina is going to have a tough time against them, especially if they start off the game struggling.)

Tampa Bay at Chicago

Winner: Tampa Bay (The Match-up of the #1 and 2 Defenses in the nation. Expect this to be a defensive battle, and very close game like the last time these two met. I just think that Rex Grossman won't be able to get over the Tampa Bay defense, while Simms already knows what to expect. If Grossman can lead the Bears offense over a high powered Defense, expect them to make it to the NFC Championship, and quite possibly, the Super Bowl.)

Conference Championships:

New England at Indianapolis

Winner: Indianapolis (The Super Bowl is Indianapolis's to lose, I'll be the first to say it. If they choke like they've done in games past in the Playoffs, it will cost them. New England will put up a heck of a fight in this game, and could very well win it all, Tom Brady is undefeated as a starter in the playoffs. Homefield advantage means nothing to New England, especially after last year. But Indy is healthier and has more on the line than New England does this year.)

Tampa Bay at Seattle

Winner: Tampa Bay (Seattle made it this far, but this where I feel it will end. Tampa is going to stop Shaun Alexander, and will force Matt Hasselbeck to make costly mistakes like he's done in the past. Defense will always dominate... look at the Texas /USC Game: The Texas Defense made the big plays early on and Vince Young ran them to the National Championship :P)

Super Bowl 40:

Tampa Bay at Indianapolis

Winner: ... Tampa Bay! (Alright, I'm gonna be bad and root for my home team, even though I still feel that this might very well be the Colts year IF they make it all the way. Expect this to look something like the past Super Bowl that Tampa won. A high-powered offense, against a smash mouth defense. The only difference is that Indianapolis is better than the Raiders team that Tampa beat. It's gonna be a heck of a game though.)

Whew. That took some time... longer than I expected. But with an hour of free time at work, what do you expect? Alright folks, let's see them wonderful picks, I'm sure I'm gonna be dead wrong. :P

Don't really follow football, but I am really &$^%ed at the 49ers. They did just barely well enough this season (meaning one up from dead last) to loost the first round draft choice. They would have been better off finishing dead last and at least recruiting one quality player.

The 49ers have been in a downward spiral since Steve Young left, and even Steve Young was no Joe Montana. Guess I need to become a Raiders fan.

Wild-Card Match-ups:

Washington at Tampa Bay

Winner: Washington. I'm going to go with the upset here, mainly because I don't think that Chris Simms can win yet when it counts.

Jacksonville at New England

Winner: New England. Hands down. New England is healthy and ready to make a huge splash in the playoffs.

Carolina at New York

Winner: New York. The Giants will have one of their good days. It's good to be in the NFC East these days.

Pittsburgh at Cincinnatti

Winner: Cincinnatti. This pick is in no way influenced by my absolute detest for the Steelers. I say that the Bengals get it together at home.

Divisonal Playoffs

Cincinnatti at Denver

Winner: Denver can definitely win this game with their defense. Plus they're at home.

New England at Indianapolis

Winner: New England. Am I crazy? Perhaps, but I still think that New England is an extra special team come playoff time. They will shock the Colts.

Washington at Seattle

Winner: Seattle. This won't be much of a contest when Alexander runs on them all day.

New York at Chicago

Winner: New York. The Giants can win in close games because of their defense up front. Grossman will be forced to throw the ball too much, resulting in a debunked Bears offense.

Conference Championships:

New England at Denver

Winner: New England. Tough choice, but if New England can beat the Colts at home, they can beat Denver too.

New York at Seattle

Winner: Seattle. Home field will play an advantage here. This will be a display of Alexander vs. Barber, but it will be Hasselbeck who comes up big when it matters.

Super Bowl 40:

New England vs. Seattle

Winner: Nobody gives Seattle enough credit, but as a Rams fan, I've had to endure them the past few years becoming better and better. I think that this is their year.

Colts vs Buccaneers?

Well... if you read into my picks,I might have very well picked Chicago to win the Super Bowl.

Hey, anything is possible. Look at the Ravens team that won the Super Bowl a few years back... and they had Trent Dilfer! Yea... nuff said.

Being a Packers fan myself, this is a bit hard to say, but I want the Bears to win it.

It took half the season for the league to recognize their threat, and now it's too little too late

I'm sorry, but in the NFC, the Bears are dangerous. If they had been in the AFC, we might be singing a different tune. But in as weak of a conference the NFC is, the Bears will dominate.

Not to mention that they did send six little known guys from their Defense to the Pro Bowl. That certainly should amount to something.

I think they are far from overrated, they are just right for the NFC.

Hey All,

I have been a football fan for years LOL. Ok I haven't been keeping up lately but given the NFC and AFC lists I will give you my best guess. B) B)

AFC Seeds

1) Indianapolis Colts (1st Round Out)

2) Denver Broncos (Wildcard)

3) Cincinnati Bengles (1st Round Out)

4) New England Patriots

5) Jacksonville Jaguars

6) Pittsburgh Steelers (Wildcard)

NFC Seeds

1) Seattle Seahawks (1st Round Out)

2) Chicago Bears (1st Round Out)

3) Tampa Bay (Wildcard)

4) New York Giants

5) Carolina Panthers (Wildcard)

6) Washington Redskins

Wildcard Match Ups

Washington at Carolina. Winner: Washington

Pittsburgh at New England. Winner: New England

Indianapolis at Denver. Winner: Denver

Chicago at Tampa Bay. Winner: Tampa Bay

Divisional

Indianapolis at Pittsburgh. Winner: Pittsburgh

Cincinnati at Denver. Winner: Denver

Caronlina at Seattle. Winner: Seattle

Chicago at Tampa Bay. Winner: Tampa Bay

Conference Championchip

Pittsburgh at Denver. Winner: Pittsburgh

Tampa Bay at Seattle. Winner: Tampa Bay

Super Bowl XXXX

Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay. Winner: Pittsburgh (We've seen Pittsburgh edge the super bowl before. Tampa Bay made it though, I am going to give Pittsburgh the benefit in this one though).

Random thought: If the NFC played the AFC, I would think it would be Jacksonville at New York and the winner: Jacksonville. Don't get me wrong we have some good teams here and those are just two but if they ever faced off I think Jacksonville would have the advantage.

There you have it. Those are my picks! :)
