Where's your closest Starbucks?

"Dr. Evil, as the legitimate frontman of your organization, I seized upon the opportunity to invest in a small Seattle-based coffee company several years ago. Today, Starbucks is a far-flung empire with 2000 outlets worldwide."  -  Number Two

I think he had the right idea. I'd take a chunk of that money, even though I've never even been inside a Starbucks.

I'd never stepped foot in a Starbucks until I moved to Washington state. I live about 3 hours south of Seattle now. Angie talked me into trying the Starbucks next to Wal Mart. It was actually pretty good.

Here is an interesting tid bit. In Israel, Starbucks went under. The coffy wasn't strong enough for them!

That's actually a very interesting case of a company not adjusting properly to local culture, and going under because of it. They didn't deal successfully with their local business partner, and the only thing they had that nobody else did were higher prices in a time when the local economy was not doing very well. Competition at work!

Another interesting fact about it was that it made Starbucks into the target of both sides in the Israeli-Arab conflict, with a false Internet e-mail rumor accusing them of anti-Semitism and an earlier Arab boycott accusing them of being too supportive of Israel.

Yes, there is something stronger than coffee, if you're talking about caffeine content, that is. Mate (pronounced ma'-tay) has signficantly more caffeine, though I can't remember the exact amount. (Web search it, if you're interested). It tastes gross to me, but then again, coffee is an acquired taste, so I can relate. It's an herb drunk something like tea throughout South America. My mother loves the crap, so I was recently web shopping for it and the proper drinking vessels. (You pack it into little gourds, pour just enough hot water over it to get the most caffeine, and then suck the juice out through a slotted straw/spoon thing).

There aren't a lot of Starbuckses in the Hartford area, so I'm not sure of the distances to me. I buy my espresso beans from one in a local mall. For brewed coffee and espresso, I have to say, I prefer Dunkin Donutses, which are spreading like wildfire. (I like Starbucks espresso beans, but they just brew it too strong for me in the stores. I don't like their regular coffee in either bean or brewed form). Here in Dunkin Donuts Land, there are usually at least three in any town, and often within sight of the others. I love my life. ;)

Garn, if you can get me a digital photo of Bad Ass Coffee, I will be forever grateful, lol.

As far as I know, 40 minutes from here, in Windsor.

But, eh, we all know Tim Hortons is the best. Well, at least 99% of Canadians can say that

In downtown Ybor city, which resides smack dab in the middle of Tampa

Fl.,There is a small cuban, family owned sandwich/coffee shop that serves

the best espresso and breakfast bread/cake you have ever had the delight

and oppurtunity to partake of,made the same way since the family migrated

from cuba (pre castro era/family receipe),many people flock there in the

mornings to meet ,share stories, read the paper, etc. prior to or on the way

to work, and beleive me when i tell you the espresso will really give you the

warp drive boost,it is still served in the little cups traditionially, that is all one

needs to blast off for the day.....

I'll agree they are pretty darn good... and this is from a non-Canadian. My mom, who lived on the border for a few years, misses it terribly.

Send me some TimBits??  ;)

You got it, Amnor. :P

Actually speaking of which, for Canada, Tim Horton's is the equivilient to Starbucks in terms of locations. They're everywhere. One is about a two minute walk from my place, but there's like at least one Timmy's in like every block, plaza and shopping mall of Toronto.
