"Dark Rush"

December 29, 2397

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Dark Rush”

So far, things had gone well. JoN’s and Vaos had met with a contact. Said contact, who did not reveal their face, then took possession of some bio hazard material that Korix and Kansas had been hauling. In exchange, the two officers had received co-ordinates necessary to find the smugglers they were really interested in. The game is afoot.

Officially, on the record, Kansas was all business throughout the transaction. Nothing fazed her. Unofficially, off the record? The exchange of information, wondering if the Major’s response codes to the other ship would work, not knowing what was going to happen…it was intoxicating. She had an adrenaline rush, as the humans said! Her senses were hyper alert, and she felt ALIVE.

Granted, there was very real danger with this mission. No training ever really prepared someone for that first covert op. You can’t tell anyone outside of your inner circle anything. It was as if you were living in a dark world dominated by mysteries.

Kansas had had a strong urge prior to leaving the Agincourt to send her parents a quick sub space text message. Even to send something to Chief Robair, her department head. It was a desire to touch base with the light world once more before being fully enveloped by the darker version. Of course, she did no such thing. She wasn’t stupid, had no wish to be court-martialed, or have her furry hide end up gracing the wall of some Fleet Intelligence Admiral or whatever organization was backing this operation.

If she wanted to survive, she needed to follow Korix’s lead, as this was his element. Curious, she had asked him,”Are you a marine?” She wanted to know exactly who she was dealing with.

He had replied that yes, he was a Marine…but not necessarily a part of the Marine service. An interesting revelation, but that was all Kansas needed, or wanted, to know. The Major had opened up a bit to her – explaining about his experiences in a Cardassian internment camp, the various hardships and shocks of that rough life. It explained much concerning his personality. Not necessarily excusing his attitude, but possibly explaining it. To be fair, she had told the Major a bit about herself. Their respective upbringings and experiences were like night and day when compared. Even now, Korix was an experienced Marine covert officer, and you could still see the greenhorn tinge on Fleeter Kansas, at times. Then again, that may be their winning factor: experience meets greenhorn to raise some hell with these Arkanis smugglers.

A smile, somewhat sad, formed on her lips. At some point, she had willingly welcomed that darkness and crossed that line into this world of smuggling. It’s funny; you’re taught the ways of law and order, and yet those lessons get blown out the airlocks in situations such as this.

Yet, it was a necessary conversion in order for her to survive. She needed to become a smuggler. And hopefully…she’d find her way back to the light after all was said and done.

Lt. M’rrett “Kansas” JoNs

Chief Tactical Officer
