Yeah, but you forgot The Animated Series. So what if it isn't canon? By every criteria of what is considered canon it SHOULD be. It had the original actors and writers, Gene Roddenbury was directly involved, etc. Not all the serieses and movies can say that.

Fred ruined Voyager for me  By pointing out all the flaws (Espcially the shuttle one).

So I supose I'll have to drop back on good ole TNG. Although Trek is deffinetly not my number one sci fi series anymore.

That spot is currently in a bitter war between Firefly, the Stargates, and Galactica

And TAS introduced the Caitians! (yep, we rock).

I voted for TOS. I am a "all" Trek fan, and aside from a few nitpicks here and there, I can honestly say I enjoyed all the series and movies. BUT, since you asked me to choose, it is the Original Series and Original Movies. That is where my heart is, and always will be.

though voyager has many flaws, i don't see that as the most important thing. I enjoyed the premise and crew on voyager and the general atmosphere of the series. also it was my first trek, that helps

Again, doesn't this just about cover all four of those shows?

DS9 Hands down.

I would have to say my favorite was DS9, a lot of action and there was not just one thing that they were focusing on the whole series. A really great overarching storyline, with the war on the Dominon. Great character interaction and overall great characters. The final stages of the Dominon war with the amazing battles featuring 20+ ships on the screen going at each other 5 different races blowing up all over the place. Untouchable.

TNG wasn't so bad but there was no point to the show, something new and weird happening every episode that had nothing to do with the previous. Plus there was very little action. But that’s just my opinion.

STV wasn't so bad, a lot of action, they had a goal, and we saw the Borg a lot. Janeway pissed me off a lot but still a good series.

The first star-trek was really really good for its time, it feels a bit out dated and watching it now some of the stuff is just plain goofy. How many times can you be taken prisoner and have to be in a battle to the death?

The new enterprise wasn't so bad. But they went back on the technology a little much for my taste. And drifted from original star trek feel.

Overall Deep Space 9 rules all.

TOS was VERY groundbreaking. in fact, it was better in its aim the the rest have been. before ST all sci-fi was a negative, depressing view of the future, STs takes place (usually) in peace time, but that wasn't the huge thing...

Kirk, WASP (white anglo-saxon protestant)

Spock, vulcan (not really central to my point)

McCoy, southerner (just kidding thats not a separate race)

Scott, european (wasp also i suppose)

Chekov, russian

Uhura, African-American

Sulu, Asian

The senior staff 1701 was made up of a pretty diverse racial mix (especially for the time) and it was a great concept that everyone got along! Also, the first inter-racial kiss on television occurred between Kirk and Uhura, how bout that.

as for the fact that its hokey..yes...but i've realized its best to watch TOS from a standpoint of watching a star trek story, not a TV production

::Transfers two hundredths of a credit to the 'bucket' account::

DS9 Hands down.

I think I would generally have to agree except for one thing: They left an AWFUL lot of things hanging. Like what happened to Sisko. Kai Winn saying she'd see Sisko again, but that was at the end of season 1 or 2... never reappeared.

But they did break a lot of ground as well. and the characters were fun... like O'Brien coming to Bashir for the millionth time to get his shoulder fixed after kayaking.

We never did find out what "stem bolts" are.

Psssht, that's cause you're not an engineer. We, on the Manticore, use self-replicating stem bolts all the time!

Or, how many times can you -

(TNG)

Meet and discuss stuff with the senior staff before acting.

Find Data (or some version off) - Lore, body parts, a twin.

Save the universe

Find Data (whoops...it happened again)

The Borg.

Deal with an alternate timeline.

(DS9)

Discover that a Bajoran Orb caused some issues.

Visit the Mirror Universe.

Have a visit from Dukat, former manager of Terok Nor.

Save the universe.

Deal with an alternate timeline.

(Voy)

Discover a completely new species.

Find the Borg. (see TNG)

Save the Universe.

Deal with an alternate timeline.

(ENT)

Trip and T'Pol.

T'Pol and Trip.

Archer loses his temper.

Porthos has a cameo.

Save the Universe.

Deal with an alterna.....

Okay, I'll stop now. Sorry y'all, I just couldn't resist.

Basically, all the Trek shows, like TOS and the "taken prisoner", had themes they re-visited and kept coming back to, themes that may have been unique to a series. And yet some of these themes showed up throughout all the series'.

While science fiction has a lot to work with, it can also have limits plot or theme wise, or decade wise. Real life concerns may be incorporated into a plot line as well (TOS inter racial kiss was mentioned, or say Rikers involvement with the androngynous female/male in that TNG episode?), and one decades concern may seem outdated say ten or so years down the line, or have branched out into other concerns by then.

As for dated and goofy? Sure! All the shows are going to become dated because of what decade they were done during.

Take a look at the first pilot episode of TNG - two words - Deanna's hair. Totally 80's! (Just say no to the hairspray). And check out Star Trek: TMP - when McCoy returns to the Enterprise - his white 70's jumpsuit outfit complete with large medallion. I'm surprised the costume dept didnt have a pair of brown-tinted shades on DeForest Kelley, it would have completed the look.

But, this is *our* Trek, and we love it all.

Yee hah!

I think FireFly had the theme down cold though, compared to all of them. Costume design wise (classic holster look), and several eps had horses, and people riding them, featured.

Althought I love all the episodes, I voted DS9, what can I say Sisko was the best CO out of all the shows.

Every one of the series had something good about it.

Ent - history

TOS - creative aliens.

TNG - Children

DS9 - Gama Quadrent, aliens

Voy - Delta Quadrent, aliens

I'd recommend the DS9 relaunch series of novels. They're some of the best Trek novels I've read and they expand on what happened in DS9's last season.

anybody know for specific what the movie contracts are like for DS9 and Voy? I assume there is a similar contract (this many seasons and some movies) for those franchises as there was for the first two?? they are way behind though.

Those darn pesky alternate timelines! Everytime you beat one down, 5 more pop up as alternates to what if you hadn't beaten the first one!
