Curious...

Greetings. I was visiting your RPG site, and am thinking about joining. I was wondering if those of you who have played for a while could give me some information and insite into the game. For instance, how many hours a week do you spend on the game.. Also, what is your opinion on it; how much do you enjoy it.. If anyone could give me their opinions and tell me some about their experiences with it, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome! Welcome!

Well, I'm gonna sound like a salesman or something here... but these are my truthefull opinions...

STSF.net is GREAT! Ok, better than great. The time spent here is well worth it, and it is extremely enjoyable and fun to have gotton to meet all the people I've met here. These are a great bunch of people who love being in the Star Trek world and enjoy putting on a good game, the best of all the games I have seen online.

Information into the game... well, basically what you are doing is acting, through words. You get to be a character in the Star Trek world, and go on missions and such to explore and disover things. It's great fun, nothing like it.

As for my experiances? There are so many of them... and it depends on whether you are talking Academy, or Advanced ship exeriances. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask away! Ask ask ask!

Garnoopy is right ... ask ask ask.  Check out the schedule at the top of the page and find a time to come and join in an academy sim.  Once you find a time, hop over to www.startrek.com; create a screen name (cadet T'Ana would be a good choice)   :D  and come join us in the Holodeck for an hour of fun, mischief and sometimes mayhem.  I know that myself, and all the others are more than happy to answer questions and lend a hand where needed.  Welcome to the Forum!

As mentioned above, welcome to STSF. As I have not been here as long as many of the above simmers (which some have been simming for a decade or more), I have been with STSF, almost since the beginning.

Lucky for us, we have an awesome webmaster. Somehow, through work, school and a family, he has made a great website for us. It has a very good insight to (a) How to sim, and (:D What to expect when you are simming. The "Help" section has great answers. Also, you might want to check the STSF FAQ, located in the Academy section of the message boards.

STSF is great. The folks here are plenty friendly, and can help you with almost anything. I hope to see you around the Academies!

Oooh, are we being surveyed?

Let's see... after you read the "how to sim" documents for information, go over to the STSF Academy board and read the Tips from the Moose for insight.  Then take part in the Academies for experience, and visit the Advanced sims to observe some learned simmers in action.

I'm on 2 advanced sims right now (yes, you can join more than one) , so that's 2 hours a week just simming.  I was once on as many as 5 sims and was just barely able to handle the stress of keeping up with all of them. :D  Of course, that doesn't count activities between sims... writing logs, participating in community events, dropping in on Academies to help cadets, etc.. Some people devote an hour each week, just taking part in their sim.  It depends on how much of yourself you're willing and able to put into the community.  No matter how much time you spend on the game, though, you'll have a lot of fun.  If I wasn't enjoying myself here, I wouldn't be here.

Hope to see you in the Holodeck soon, T'ana.

Welcome to STSF!

Of course, look at all the resources people have mentioned above, and ask just about anyone and they'll tell you just how great STSF simming is. :-)

As for how much time, as you can see, it makes a difference as to how involved you are/want to become.  As for me, I'm on one advanced sim that commits me to 1 hr of sim time per week.  I spend about 1/2 hr a week writing a log for it.  I usually play in 1-3 academies per week, depending on how much real-life free time I have.  And, I hang around the STSF boards quite a bit posting and answering questions (like this one) during other free time.  The time is worth it, otherwise, I wouldn't be doing it!
