"Not So Sweet Dreams"

“Not So Sweet Dreams”

Stardate: 0512.13

Lt. JG Ryan Kaufman

-----------------------------

Kaufman had quite a run in with that virus, but now he was recovering quite well. He was one of the lucky ones who could be saved from the virus’s rampant spread. Though the virus was quick to remove, the same couldn’t be said about his recovery. At least he was one of the few who actually remembered what happened, showing that his nervous system and brain had not been affected by the virus in any way. He had to sit in bed for hours while being tube fed, as the doctors weren’t quite sure if the virus was still affecting his bodily functions such as digestion and excretion. As he lay there in the biobed, Ryan’s thoughts drifted to his very strange dream he had when he was unconscious. He remembered when he first woke up from his slumber, how all the tension and pain went away, and the remaining feeling was a generous amount of total bliss and an overwhelming sense of wisdom, almost like his dream was speaking to him in some way.

In the dream, Ryan was being chased by a dragon-like creature, but for some reason he was in the middle of space. Just floating. He saw many planets fly by and the stars were streaking, almost as though he was at warp speed. Just before he came out of this dream, the dragon exploded in a bright flash, leaving nothing behind. Just the stars. It was then that Ryan woke up, the virus removed from his body. Though he had no idea of what his dream meant, he had a feeling that he knew something that was going to happen in the future. Maybe not in the near future, but possibly hundreds of years down the road.

Instead of dwelling on what the symbols may be, he moved on to figuring out what the plot meant. Could it be that something (or someone) might be after him? Or could he be representing the Federation? Quite possibly the entire human race? These questions bothered him for a few days and he desperately wanted to see the counselor, but the doctors wouldn’t release him from their care for any reason. He wasn’t even allowed to urinate by himself. He had to be monitored for any lasting effects of the virus.

A couple more days passed and Ryan’s recovery was almost complete. At least he could eat normally, but going to the bathroom was still a public event. Because he was bedridden and had no duties to attend to, Ryan had a large amount of time to figure out his dream, but still couldn’t arrive at any conclusions. He then tried to figure out the symbolism of the dream because logically, he wouldn’t be chased through space by a dragon going warp speed. He tried many options, but the most logical had the dragon as some daunting enemy while Ryan was the human race. But what did this signify? Whatever it was, he had a bad gut feeling about it. He decided to wait until he was well before pursuing the matter any further. Perhaps the counselor could help him out.

P.S. This is my first log. I hope I did it right! Please make comments so I know how I did. Thanks!

Sounds alright to me.

Though you can tell those doctors that they have to draw the line of observation somewhere!
