HALO 2

30 posts in this topic

Hello all:

Anyone here that has played / is playing X Box's Halo 2: do I want to check this game out? I'm thinking of asking Santa for H2 for Christmas.

A good Single Player is preferable. A good Multiplayer is a bonus. Does Halo 2 cover all this?

Thanks,

Kansas

I have not played Halo 2, but I can tell you it definitely has both. It supposed to be insanely better than the first, which was pretty darn awesome itself.

Now, dont get me wrong when I say this upcomming. Halo 1 & 2 rock, and when Halo 3 comes out (It aint gonna be when PS3 comes out, so dont even bother saying it) it'll rock too.

But, if your going to get an Xbox game, get Starwars: Knights of the Old Republic. It's not only the top SW game I've even played, it also is one of my top games of all time. Yeah, so my top Xbox games are:

Star Wars: KOTOR

Jet Set Radio Future

Halo

Phantasy Star Online

NFL 2K5 (Screw EA buying the NFL rights, this is still a better game)

I was eyeing KOTOR! Looks like a wonderful RPG. But my only reservation is the combination turn based / real time combat. Not experienced in that type of gameplay, so I don't know if I would get used to that.

They'll release it on PC, don't worry. As for why they haven't yet, my only guess is that they've been working on the Halo 2 patches that are sitting on all the XB360 hard drives. If you've had the chance to play it on the 360 it seems much improved. The game is smoother, the graphics are better, and the action seems faster. Whether any of this is true or not is up for debate, but there's no doubt that there are quite a few files on there for Halo and Halo2 that come pre-loaded (ready to play Halo out of the box, don't have to download the emulators like you do with the other compatible games). Now I'll share with you all a couple pieces of art handed down from the GameStop corporate types...here's a couple of the potential Halo 3 cover arts.

Halo 2 was a great game! A year ago. When this game came out and everyone was online playing it i would recommend it. I used to play the game on live but my Xbox live account ran out, you have to pay you know. Now the single play is terrible, if you played the first one the this sotry line will make you so mad.

They ruin the whole story line and the game is much to short/easy. Online is amazing, but this game is feeling its age. If you have your heart set on a FPS then halo is a good game but if you wont a well rounded xbox game look for somthing eles.

I would have to dissagre. I think Halo 2 has an awsome story line. The game play and graphics are awsome and you get really pulled into it.

However I do agree that its to short. Coulda been a little longer.

The story line really made me mad. From the commercials you think you will be fighting to have the earth. Your last ditch chance to save the human race from the evil covenant. But 4 mission into it you get pulled away to another halo ring what was that all bout. Half the game you play as an elite, and those missions weren't as fun as the master chief ones. And the graphics, the first cut scene buildings in the background can be seen cutting in and out, game play gfx where good but the game is getting very old now. Overall it felt rushed, bungie had an incredblie turn around deadline to make a sequal and i don't blame them for how th egam eturn out. It game me many months of online play madness, but the story mode, which i beat in a few hours, left me wonting for much much more.

I was eyeing KOTOR! Looks like a wonderful RPG. But my only reservation is the combination turn based / real time combat. Not experienced in that type of gameplay, so I don't know if I would get used to that.

In the combat portion of the game (Which is really easy, the game has a training level, which shows you how to equip, level up, and attack and other things) sounds complicated at first, but once you do it, it becomes rather natural.

When a battle begins, the game pauses. From this opening, you can toggle targets (if there is more then one) and set up your initial attacks. The turnbased aspect of it, is that people trade off atacks in real time. Now this can get a bit confusing, so stay with me :P You can set up physical attacks (with swords and lightsabers) Including a basic attack, a melee attack (more atacks with reduced accuracy and damage) and a power attack (one masive strike).

Ranged attacks (blasters and blaster rifles etc.) are the same, just with different names. You can stack up to four actions at a time, including attacks, force attacks/abilities, and item use.

The real time aspect of battle, comes from the fact that at a whim, you can reissue attack sequences, change targets, and move your character. Now, at times this can lead to a crappy hit detection system, only for the fact that a enemy may have started his attack after you moved, and you still incur damage. At anytime during the battle, you can also pause the game, to get a look around, and stratagize. Later on in the game, when you control up to three seperate characters in battle, this can be invaulable.

Again, this seems rather confusing, just reading through it, but the game eases you into it. Also, your partner characters have a pretty good A.I. so you can often leave them on their own in battle, and they should be ok. Esspically your Jedi characters, seeing as how their often smart enough to cast force heal for themselves, which can keep you from constantly worrying about their VP (health).

Besides the mechanics of the game, you should buy it if only for it's plot. One of the first games to really actively have characters choices affect the plot, the story is incredibly deep. You could spend hours just talking to your companions and NPC's and be amazed at the depth into this game. Jolee Bindo has to be one of the funniest, smartest, and most relatable characters in recent history. The plot has an excelent love story (which is completely avoidable, if you dont like that sort of thing...It did seem like Jedi were getting it on left and right back then) Good morals, and just an all around interesting plot. For those of you who have played the game, you know what Im talking about when I talk about the shocking revelation about 3/4's through. And for those who haven't, well...you just have to see. :)

KOTOR was one of my favorite games of all time, and for a game that can boast 60-80 hours of play time, on my 6th run through, I still haven't done everything that you can do. Replay value is almost endless, with the light/dark possiblities and general subplot outcomes.

For those of you who also have Xbox Live, and downloaded the new content (which is lacking, on thing that disapointed me) New armor and lightsaber crystals will make you into a credit grubbing whore ;) If you have enough money to get the Mantle of the Force crystal, and the other one (forgot the name at the moment) The Sith...or the Jedi B) will bow before you and tremble ;)

KOTOR II: The Sith Lords, uses the same combat system as the original, so it's easy to step into. It's an all around good game, but the plot left me wishing for more. My two conclusions were the decision to pass the series off to a new designer (From Bioware to Obsidion) and the demand by Lucas Arts for a Holiday 05 release, which forced the cutting of two whole worlds, and the shorting of the events on Malachor V. The ending of the game leaves with with a "what the **** just happened" feeling, but all in all the game is still rather good.

Basically: Go buy these games, now. Be you a Starwars Fan, RPG fan, or a person that just likes a game with a good epic story, these games will suit all your needs, and have you comming back for more Bantha Fodder. :o

If ya like KOTOR (and I love it) check out Mass Effect for the XB360. Made by the same people at BioWare and it looks like it's going to be a huge hit. I'm more excited about it than Gears of War.

YES SIR! **Salutes** ;)

No really, after that awesome breakdown Travis, KOTOR is now on the radar and being added to the ever growing "games I am looking into" *list*.

Thanks for the heads up and discussion regarding Halo (Chell, Reno, Rock). It does sound as if it is up my alley, if only for the MP aspect.

As for the 360 praise / games mentioned? That needs to wait for a while. Sorry, but it is too early IMO to get the 360 (even if I could locate one). Too expensive, too much hype, and I want to wait until all bugs are worked out of it and the game listing is expanded a bit. I am giving it at least, 6 months to a year, before even starting to think about the 360.

Thanks all!

Oh come on what am i chop liver? I bet it was because I recommended you not to buy the game? B)

I played KOTOR I and loved it you should get it. I won't spoil it but the ending is great! I had to read tutorails to help through some of the games really hard puzzels. If you do try not to scroll all the way down it might spoil the ending.

Other xbox games you might like...

Top SPin, a very great and addicting tennis game.

Call of Duty 1 & BigRedone- really great WWII games.

Jade Empire- From the guys behind KOTOR so you know its good.

Fuzion Frenzy- Cheap party game, kind of like Mario Party

FAble- Many hardcore RPg gamers disliked it, but i thought it was a fun time.

Hmm, with all the bugs the 360 is getting, I'd probably wait for the PS-3 to come out. Love the Ps-1 and 2, so I do think that the 3 is gonna kick some serious video gaming butt. B)

And Murdok! ;)

Fable does look interesting! For now though - I am staying with another interesting fantasy RPG called "Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition." Great stuff, and I get to play a kitty thief. Muwah.

Fable's good it has a long storyline and you can do whatever you want in it. Hey guys shouldn't I be getting paid for all these promotions. If I were you guys I would wait until H-3 comes out before I think about 360 I mean really it's the only reason we're buying 360s
