Lt Acrops log

Subject: Lt Acrops log

Date: Mon, May 26, 1997 6:39 AM

From: LtAcrop

His shift had ended.  Acrop decided it was finally time to make this Ulysses Class ship his home.  As he walked down the corridor he made his way to his quarters.  Believe it or not..  this would only be the 3rd or 4th time here.  Acrop simply did not want to stop working.  Maybe the others had gotten over what happened on he old vessel, but Acrop just was not that time of man.  Instead..  he let his Vulcan side through and concentrated on work, suppressing the very human emotions he felt in the core of

his soul.  Hopefully, unpacking would be a bit therapeutic for him.

First things first.  He installed the Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Joe Satriani visuals on his walls.  Then, he took out his complete collection of He-Man figurines... and placed them on a storage platform.  Next, he took out his Holographic Program editor.  Originally Acrop started out with simple stationary images..  but had progressed to the level of the professionals.

As Acrop took out a picture of his family..he heard something under or near the bed.  He walked over and saw Leo and Spuds playfully fighting.  He didn't really see how that could be considered "playfulness" but, cats were strange..to say the least.  Acrop had considered bartering them for a tribble on multiple occasions.

After but an hour, his quarters were just that...   his.  As Acrop exited he glanced one last time at the picture of his family, his mother in particular.  As he slowly made his way to the nearing TL he thought about some of his mother's words.

She told him to "find a mate".  What did that mean?  Find a mate?  He was young.  He was hardly interested in a relationship and beyond that, he didn't really think of anyone he was interested in pursuing.  Marriage was a complicated institution that always seemed to bring more harm than good.  Did that mean he wouldn't marry?

As Acrop tried to enter the TL he remembered Captains order.

"Guess I'll have to do this the hard way......"  Acrop continued on, toward the holodecks.

No..it didn't.  In fact Acrop was sure he would marry.  But as the universe grew bigger and bigger every year, the chance of finding the right person grew smaller and smaller.  Thats probably an explanation of 20th century Terra's high divorce rate.  Simply, the right person was NOT on that planet.  Still,  Acrop had enough confidence in himself to know that there would be a time when he would settle.. for all the right reasons.

Acrop made his way to the holodeck and began installing his favorite programs.

One thing he wasn't sure about was his performance, and furthermore, his ability.  He knew he wasn't doing his best.. and it sincerely angered him.  But he lost the faith of his Chief.  They lost some of their former chemistry..and it was a bit devastating.   Acrop wondered where he stood in terms of Engineering.  He had recommitted himself a week or two ago and really turned up his performance level....  Acrop knew that one day he would make Cheif Engineer and beyond that, first officer and captain.  or

at least, he knew he could.   But about 4 to 5 weeks ago he felt for the first time.. that his future was in jeapordy.  The feeling hurt.  The feeling of being passed over promotion after promotion hurt.  Not because the Captain was unfairly over looking him.  But worse, because they were fairly overlooking him.

And clearly, that trickled down to everyone's impression of him on the ship.  He just hoped that his recommitment wasn't too little...   too late.
