Hope?

Simon had just finished reading the report sent to him by Captain Jalil. He had to admit that she seemed rather competent, at least as far as her field of work was concerned. Still he didn’t envy Hartman. Simon had been surprised the med tech had still been unharmed. He had heard about the incident in which a large amount of the data that had been collected on the bioweapons was lost due to Hartman’s incompetence. This little mishap would have to be talked about.

Right now, however, the medical department’s priority should be finding an antidote to the bioweapons. Admittedly that was not easy especially since science had not yet been able to determine what kind of weapons they had to expect. This looming threat did nothing to raise his spirits. Simon was sure he wasn’t the only one so he hoped Doctor Vio would be able to

work out a plan to keep crew morale up.

“Who are you kidding, Simon?” He was talking to himself. Morale had been down for a long time now. They were flying through space in a wreck. Every time they went to warp he was surprised the whole thing didn’t just blow up. It was nothing short of a miracle that they had managed to accomplish their missions.

Simon’s thoughts wandered to Kestra. She hadn’t sounded happy when he had asked her to have dinner with him. Maybe he had just chosen the wrong moment. He didn’t want to admit it but he was still in love with that woman. She had turned his life upside down but he had liked it. He decided to keep trying to sort things out with her. Maybe there was still a chance for the both of them. There was not much hope but who knew...maybe.
