A name forgotten

Subject: A name forgotten

Date: Fri, Apr 4, 1997 6:31 PM

From: LtHerel

A name forgotten, a name cried, a name remembered:

Rhiannon woke slowly, with a feeling of dislocation.  She tried to move and see where she was.  Suddenly she felt the beginning of a transport.  In that hazy moment before dematerializing, her eyes opened to emergency-level lighting and she recognized the inside of a lifepod.

A lifepod!  Was it some kind of full-mobilization drill, that patients would be moved out of Sickbay?

They were now materializing on what appeared to be a shuttle, and she could see Dr. Stewart leaning over her and another patient.

"Doctor?" she murmured.

Ann turned to her and bent to move her into a comfortable position.  "How do you feel, Counselor?"

Rhi stood up in the limited space and stretched before sitting back down.  "I feel... fine," she said, surprised that she did.  Then she looked over at the other patient in the shuttle -- Dr. Herel.  "What happened to her?" she asked.

What to tell?  Ann hesitated a moment in the dilemma of confidentiality.  But Rhiannon was the ship's counselor and might even be able to help.  So she told her, in as few words as possible.

Rhi looked over at the unconscious Herel again.  Something that had been nagging at the back of her mind became a little clearer...  "Did she say anything?" she asked.

Ann nodded once.  "She said a name, it sounded like.  Vedel... no, Valdor... no... Velgrat?  Something like that."

Rhi's eyes got very wide.  She looked from Ann to Teri and back again several times.  "I knew she looked familiar," she whispered.
