Definitely Not Happy

Simon entered his office and sighed. The day had not started well and it didn’t look like it’d get any better. He sat down behind his desk and looked at Captain Jalil.

"We need to co-ordinate our efforts in this matter," Jalil said as soon as Simon sat. He nodded. "I agree." Simon picked up a PADD with the duty roster for the next month. "I think I will assign doctor Pavilion to your science team. She is more than capable and should assist your scientists in identifying the threat and, if necessary, finding an antidote."

Adina didn’t look satisfied and Simon frowned at her, wondering what might come next. "I also need at least two med. techs for the team." This wasn’t a question. Simon smiled. He liked Adina’s boldness. Consulting the PADD again the doctor nodded.

"I can assign Thomson to your team the second would have to split his time between sickbay and your team. You can choose either Hartman or Kempinski." He looked up from the PADD and saw that the Captain was definitely not happy. "That’s all I can do for you, captain. My resources are limited and I’m trying my best to keep sickbay working." Simon’s voice was stern and his expression set.

Captain Jalil got up. "Well if that’s all the personnel you can spare." Simon got up, too. "I would also like to receive reports regularly, Captain." He stressed the last word to emphasise his higher rank.

Adina gave him a harsh look. "I see," she said coldly, trying to control her temper before it got the best of her again. "I'll make sure you get your reports." She still wasn't pleased with the situation, and she made that as obvious as she could. She remained silent for several moments, choosing her next words carefully. "I have work to do in the labs. Is there anything further?"

Simon sighed and shook his head. "Not at the moment. And not while you have that attitude. My resources are just as limited as yours, and you're just going to have to accept that."

"Accept it, yes. That doesn't mean I have to like it, now does it?" Adina crossed her arms defensively and stared at the deck. "Don't answer that. I have work to do; can I leave?" Simon nodded. "Go on." Without so much as a nod of acknowledgement, Adina walked out of the office and stalked down the corridor toward the labs.

Simon was fuming. Adina's boldness didn't please him after all. He made a mental note to have another talk with her about this. But not now, not while there was so much work to do.
