Ensign Savvik - Log Two

Subject: Ensign Savvik - Log Two

Date: Wed, Apr 2, 1997 9:50 PM

From: EnsSavvik

Ensign Savvik exited the turbolift on deck 36 and headed for main engineering. He kept going over everything he knew about engineering, concentrating on what Victoria had said: just do what you know how to do.

Savvik stepped into main engineering... and stopped. He looked up and saw the pulsing warp core and realized: this is for real... no more Academy simulations. He swallowed hard and walked on.

He came to the Commander T'kai's office door, and pressed the call button.

While he was waiting for the chief engineer's response, a man Savvik recognized from personnel files as Lieutenant Christodoulos Acrop walked up to him and welcomed him. While he was doing so, Commander T'kai burst out of his office.

"Where's that new ensign?" he asked.

   "Right here," answered Lieutenant Acrop.

For the next five minutes, Savvik received the 3rd degree... you know, those really tough questions for which there is no right answer - kind of like the Kobiyashi Maru scenario, only on a more personal basis.

Commander T'kai called Lieutenant Acrop over, and asked him to give Savvik the grand tour. Lieutenant Acrop didn't seem thrilled at the idea, but obeyed his commander's orders, just the same. Acrop took Savvik around and showed him some of the basic consoles.

In the middle of a (yawn) LCARS demonstration, a call came from sickbay. Systems were on the fritz and they needed someone right away. Savvik and Acrop proceeded to sickbay and examined the malfunctioning biobed. Savvik replicated a new control board for the biobed and handed it to Acrop to install.

"It's repaired, but I wouldn't use it unless you have to," Acrop advised the CMO.

"Wonderful," thought Savvik. "That's probably the bed they'll use for my physical."
