Mithraia Coeur

"Broken Wings"

"Broken Wings"

Lieutenant Junior Grade Mithraia Coeur

The dream always started out the same way. It was a beautiful place. Lush and green, with turquoise waterfalls crashing into mirrored pools, causing a mist in the air that cooled the skin. Mithraia Coeur, her vibrant red hair, now long and curly and cascading down her back, walked barefoot in the softest grass. The wind caressed at her, like translucent wings enveloping her in a feeling of warmth.

Yes, she had dreamed this before.. for as long as she could remember. As she approached the rippling pool where the waterfall released it's cascade into, she knelt down and traced her fingertip on the top of the water. It was always so peaceful, so serene. But it never lasted long. As her eyes gazed into the water, she always saw a man's face. Looking back at her with scared eyes, reaching to her .. screaming, but silently. She'd desperately try to reach him, jumping into the water. Under the surface, she could see him but never could get to him. Or see him clearly, Eventually.. she'd run out of breath and begin to drown...

------------------

Sputtering, Mia sat up in her bed with a start .. sweat glistening on her forehead, her hair damp and stringy. She coughed, gasping for the air that seemed to be absent from her lungs. She held her head in her hands and composed herself. The dream. It was the dream again. The dream that had plagued since she was a young girl. She never knew what it meant, and it became and more confusing to her when she started to have an idea of who the man was in her dream.

It looked an awful lot like Ron.

Ron. She hadn't been to see him since his release from Sickbay. Part of her was afraid to. She wasn't sure why. The whole event had brought to the surface feelings of uncertainty. Mia never let anyone close her, except for maybe the parents who had adopted her .. but even then, they had only seen glimpses of her. Tiny shards of a broken mirror. Ron had penetrated her defenses. He was chipping away at the wall that held her so securely in her world. She wanted to let him, but the events of the recent past had made her wonder if she could handle losing him.

She stood from her bed, and walked over to her mirror. The girl staring back at her wasn't really her. It was a shell. Protecting a little girl lost, keeping out the harsh light of day and the chilling elements. Ron had become a light to her. To have that light diminish would be devastating. Mia turned away from the mirror and crossed her arms. The ship would be in some grave situations in the future. She needed to see him. There was so much she wanted to tell him, and to ask him about. She remembered him telling her something strange when he was in and out of consciousness. Perhaps .. there would be a great reveal between them. And maybe it would bring them even closer together.

Or drive them apart.
