"A Moment Alone"

"A Moment Alone"

It seemed like it had been ages since she had been back in her quarters. As the doors slid closed behind her, she slipped off her white coat and draped it one of her kitchenette chairs. She needed a few hours of sleep and a hot shower. Slowly, she stripped away the layers of the recent events. Her dirty dress uniform; torn, tattered and bloody. Then she released her hair from it's bind, letting it cascade freely on her now bare shoulders. As she walked towards her bathroom area, she exhaled a breath and paused.

"Computer, classical music selection 16. At 45 percent volume."The soft strains of violins filled the air as she started her shower. The steam from the water clouded her vision. She stood under the stream, letting the hot water envelope her like a cocoon. Her mind went through the whole thing; the speeches, the sudden explosion that left her ears ringing, and the collapsing of the building around her. Of Ron, who without hesitating, pushed her out of the way and took the brunt of the rubble himself. How he lay unconcious in Sickbay. The future looked and felt grim, but Mia was trying to be positive. As she soaped her wrists, gently brushing against the circular scars that were sometimes hard to hide with her uniform sleeves.. she had been through worse.

--------------------

"Mister Fitzgerald .. I can I explain... you'll have your money for your impressive products soon."

Jaren Fitzgerald glared at the man sitting across from him. He was well dressed, military-style. He had his associates look into Colonel Mordin Disan. A mercenary for a violent faction during the civil wars of the Falkori system. He knew he was pretty ruthless, but Jaren smirked a bit to himself. Colonel Disan wasn't as ruthless as he was, "I agree, Colonel .. my products are very impressive. But we have a problem. You seem to enjoy my products without paying for them."

Colonel Disan gulped and glanced at his servant girl, Mithraia, who stood beside him. She was 10 years old, but developed beyond her years. Disan always passed her for 13, maybe 14 years old. Disan thought for a moment and looked over at Jaren, "I can pay now .. if you are willing to listen."

Jaren leaned back in his seat, "Talk."

The Colonel motioned to Mithraia. He knew the reputation of Jaren's obsession with young women and hoped to exploit it, "My servant, Mithraia. How about I give her to you.. she will serve you well. She always strvies to please in any way you would want."

"You want to give me your servant .. to pay for my weapons?" Jaren looked over the girl. She was a pretty little thing. Vibrant red hair. Amazing eyes. Petite. His lips turned up in a smile, ".. you have a deal, Colonel. This time. You better have money next time. Do you understand?"

Colonel Disan nodded and pushed Mia over towards Jaren. His hand rested at the back of her neck. She stiffened and glanced up at him with wide eyes. As the Colonel left them .. Jaren growled lowly at her, "You're mine now."

He reached over and grabbed a black iron rod, the end of is burning bright orange. It was the shape of a circle. Taking her wrist, he pressed the hot iron to her flesh, branding both wrists. She screamed.

"You belong to me. And you'll never forget it."

---------------------

Mia looked down at her wrists, the water becoming colder. She had been there longer than she had planned. She stepped out and dried off. Despite her scars, her memories, she had grown stronger everyday since being here. She wouldn't let any of the past consume her. Not anymore. All she really needed was this moment alone.
