"Mirror, Mirror On The Wall"

September 28, 2397

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Mirror, Mirror On The Wall”

JoN’s had finally managed to take a quick break away from the TAC console.

Within fifteen minutes she had snarfed down a sandwich, some black coffee with sugar, and hopped into a much needed shower. Not a sonic, she opted for water this time. The food and caffeine would give her a much needed jolt to carry on through the next few hours.

Bracing herself with palms flat against the opaque transparent aluminum tiles, and her head lowered between her upraised arms, she allowed the hot water to pelt against her. The liquid thrummed against her left shoulder and neck, massaging the painful knot of muscles that had formed over these last few hours. Her trapezious muscle had been injured a few years back. Not serious, but the muscles tended to act up if the Caitian was extremely tense. Yep, this situation qualified for the whole tense factor.

With the water sluicing down her fur and swirling at her feet, she allowed a few moments to deal with the feelings of anger, grief, and fear toward the VDC terrorist attack. Who. Why. Chaos. The VDC a broken memory to peace. Many injuries. Many people gone. Had the marine and security teams missed something…could they have prevented the attack?

Her emotions were scattered as well. Kansas wanted to track down those responsible and beat the living Hades out of them. Her Caitian upbringing called for a much calmer approach to the matter. Security training called for the rules to be followed and legal justice to be done.

With a shake of her head she snapped back to reality. The USS Dark Sparrow rendezvous time was approaching, the injured non-Agincourt personnel needed to be moved. Toggling the shower controls off, she stepped out and quickly dried off, donning her duty uniform.

Finger combing her still damp mane of short hair, Kansas started for the door, but paused as she glanced over at the mirror. The reflection was not a wet behind the ears cadet midshipman, nor was it the reflection of a grizzled veteran. It was the reflection of a junior officer that had now faced her first real challenge in the line of duty, now working through the emotional aftermath of the terrorist attack. The mirror image of many faces these last hours.

Grim. Haunted.

Lt (jg) M’rrett “Kansas” JoN’s

Tactical Officer
