USS Excalibur (Touring Surma and its Orbital Platform)

Star date: 0509.25

Over the course of the last few days on Surma my fears have all but disappeared. I remain alert but I have seen no hostile intentions from the Surma to the contrary they have all been most pleasant. Today we got to tour their Orbital Platform, it was impressive considering their level of Technological development but the most interesting thing of my trip so far has been the Shuttle ride from the planets surface to the Orbital Station.

I am very glad that we have the technology that we do, but some things we miss out on. I was reminded of this during my shuttle ride. Their shuttle did not have any inertial dampers so from the moment we took off, you felt it! It was exhilarating and something far different than I have grown accustomed to. I believe Commander Graham had as much fun as I did and the ride was made more amusing by the fact the McKnight nearly got sick on the ride. He had a most entertaining series of expressions on his face for most of the ride.

The Orbital platform was interesting and we got the full tour, including the construction of one of their Explorers. I found the frame most interesting and found my mind wandering thru our own civilizations past which seemed to come alive every step of this trip. What it must be like to live at this important turning point in the Sumac’s history. I’ve learned one thing on this trip. We can do some great things and have the technology to explore vast sections of space but we have lost a little bit of the fun that our ancestors must have had. The shuttle ride alone showed me as much.
