Cptn Corizon

Three Days

Three days seemed like three weeks. Corizon had met, just in the past five hours, with seven different Surmac officials; all of them with different concerns and questions about the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant.

He found it harder than expected to explain the Federation and it’s mission to race who’d never before encountered the Federation until a passing trader from the Alpha Quadrant mentioned them to the Surmac. In the corner of the Alpha Quadrant Corizon was familiar with, everyone knew who the Federation was…well anyone with space-faring capability. Getting adjusted to a region where you’re no longer the hegemon isn’t easy.

Corizon leaned back in the chair he was sitting in. This time he was to meet with the President, yet again. Decorated in light blues and purples, the reception area looked inviting. The chairs were supple and comfortable, he imagined that the President was often busy and thus the comfortable chairs for long waits.

Across from him sat an elderly female, the administrative assistant. She looked up from her paper work and smiled softly. “I am sorry to make you wait so long,” her voice was friendly and genuine. “President Hafin is currently in meeting with the Representatives of the Northern Provinces. He’ll only be a few minutes longer I am sure.”

Corizon nodded with a smile, careful not to reveal the sharp canine fangs. He’d found the Surmac to be almost frightened of them, and so he’d made a conscious effort to keep them out of view.

Hafin, however, didn’t seem to be freighted by anything. Corizon was truly impressed by the man. Hafin had been one of the pioneers of their first days in space. He had a loose style that allowed him to just as easily mingle with the people, as put politician in his place. There was a certain quality about him that reminded him of what humans would call a “space cowboy” reminiscent of a Kirk or a Spock.

Corizon spent the first day of the mission with Hafin, touring around the provinces and meeting the various leaders of the provinces. It surprised him that Admiral Day had given Corizon the mission, but it was a welcome surprise. He’d spent the last twenty days cooped up on Morningstar, and wasn’t about to second guess an order that would get him off the ship.

Hafin’s secretary looked over as a light flashed on her desk. “Commander Corizon is waiting for you, sir.”

Corizon heard Hafin say “send him in.” But waited for the secretary to give him permission.

“The President will see you now,” she smiled. “Have a nice afternoon, Commander.”

“You too,” he said making his way into the office.
