A Dark Afternath part 2

Subject: a Dark Afternath part 2

Date: Thu, Jan 30, 1997 6:00 PM

From: Ens1flip

It seemed like hours since the battle ensued, Ensign Flip thought, although he knew only to be l alittle less than one. Yet still sickbay has managed to fill up with different injuries.

Leading the triage team, Flip sorted out the trauma cases and assigned the several trauma teams to handle each case. " Team three, take the yeoman to biobed 4 and prep for surgery, he won't last long unless the bleeding is abated, Team five takes all burn victims except radiation burns which goes to team two..."

He then began going from one bed to another, fluttering like a bee, from one team site to another. So this is war, he mutters, how glorious.

"Ensign Flip sir, " a medical yeoman called, " Sir this man just came in and all the teams are busy-"

"Biobed 13, I'll handle this" Flip said. Pulling out his tricorder, he scans the man. Judging from the readings, this crew member recieved multiple entry wounds from debris shrapleling from an exploded panel. Multiple isn't the word, Flip thought with a grim smirk, the debris shrapenel was so fine that each splinter was only a little more than a micron in diameter, and from the looks of it he has splinters embeded in about 30 percent of his body surface.

The unknown crew member was placed in the biobed, preped, and placed on stasis for surgery. " Computer, display patients vitals , blood chemical levels and provide locations of foriegn bodies marked by white." Ensign Flip asked Holly. "please Holly, no pranks, This mans life is on the line."

The screen lit up with the requested data without a comment from the unique computer system the ship had. Maybe she knows...

The outline of the body was riddled with whit spots, mostly in the upper right quadrant of his abdomen, also in the lower right lobe of his lung. Hematocrit levels were way too low, too much internal bleeding.

" I need lactate ringer solutions 3 liters, get 3 units of his bloodtype from replicator, and get me a immunosupressant" Flip said to the rotating nurse. "Hypo volemia in three minutes"

Flip knew there was only one way the man would survive, all the splinters had to be removed. A transport filter would not work, the filaments were too small and too many, and too close to the major organs, yet that seemed the only viable option, cutting him up to get to each piece would kill him.

"Holly, Adjust emergency transporter beam filter to screen out foriegn bodies identified on screen." Flip said as he moved to activate transporter controls "Activate now".

The patient shimmered in the transporter beam, and was back to where he was. The levels of foriegn bodies were cut down by 10 % yet he was still destabilizing. There  might still be time. " Holly, repeat procedure"  Where is that lactate ringer solution....
