Incoming transmission

Subject: Incoming transmission

Date: Fri, Jan 10, 1997 8:04 PM

From: EnsKitKat

It was 0900 hours and Kit was sitting at her terminal playing the 20th Century computer game Myst, a game of logic, and not doing very well.  Perhaps it was because she wasn't a morning person, or maybe it was the fact that Nebulae had finally returned and was now on her lap, pestering Kit to pet her.

As Kit stroked the purring cat, she thought about Nebulae's sudden return.  When Kit had put a locator collar on her, Nebulae disappeared and Kit was unable to locate her due to the fact that Holly had supplied her with a defective collar.  But Nebulae must have calmed down because, when Kit returned to her quarters last night, she was on the bed.  Kit had removed the collar (who wants a defective collar?) and gone to bed.

Suddenly she was pulled back into the present with a little beep, then Holly's voice. "Incoming transmission for Ensign T'Mara."

Kit hit a button and the Myst game disappeared. "Patch it through here, Holly." Kit watched as the UFP symbol appeared on the screen, then transformed into the face of her younger sister. She smiled. "Hey, Sis."

Audrey T'Mara's image smiled back. "I see you're enjoying your gift." Her face seemed to be filled with joy. Kit knew it was more than that she was enjoying Nebulae that caused this particular reaction.

Kit rubbed Nebulae between the ears. "I love her. She's just darling. Now, why did you call? I know it's not to check up on me."

Audrey smiled even wider. "I can't fool you, Kit. Guess what?" Kit shruged, and Audrey, who obviously couldn't hold it, blurted, "I got accepted into the Cetacean Academy at Edinburgh!"

"Wow!" Kit said with obvious pride. She would never hide her feelings from her little sister or any of her family for that matter.  If she had any really close friends she wouldn't hide then from them either, but so far on the Republic she really didn't have any although there were a few candidates if they wanted the job. "That's great! It's not many 11 year olds that get accepted into the Cetacean Academy, or for that matter, any academy. Congrats!"

Audrey blushed. "Thanks. Do you think I'll do ok?"

"I know you will. You'll probably graduate at the top of your class."

"I'm following in your footsteps, Kit. You entered Starfleet Academy when you were 11. We'll see how well I'm doing in March when you come to visit."

Kit smiled. "I can hardly wait."

"By the way, you'll be recieving something from Michael, Porter, and me real soon."

Kit raised an eyebrow worriedly. "It's not another cat is it? I'm already going to get one of the Captain's kittens in awhile."

Audrey laughed. "You look so funny when you worry. But don't. It's not a cat. Besides, you need a hobby."

   "Hobby?"

Audrey giggled. "Ohno! I've said to much. I've got to go get ready. But always remember my own personal motto: 'I shall never surrender to servitude or the 70's style, whatever the cost may be, and please, save the whales.'" With that the screen returned to the UFP symbol.

Kit shook her head and looked down at Nebulae, then scratched her under her chin. "Hobby?"
