Signature Length

My point is there will always be colors that people want to use in chat rooms that will not show up against some backgrounds.

It allows a flare of individuality when people look at your posts.

There are a lot of good points in here, but I decided to grab Nemesis' because his was the shortest and to the point. :P

Individuality is a good thing, nothing wrong with that. Most people here at STSF do pretty well in the signature/individual part, and it all comes down to preference.

As y'all can see I did the signature and ship postings. Haven't found a good quote yet, which is why its not in my signature. I try and keep the colors matching, and the font and text readable.

General guideline? Smoothness. Just dont do a whole lot of text, scrolling, strange un matched colors and the like, and keep whatever it is readable and on the small to medium size. Find an image that is *workable*. If somethings not acceptable, one of the admins lets you know, I am sure. :)

However, I am all for keeping your siggy nice and simple. No reason to have a life story in them. :P

True!

**Signature** It all started...and then...after that...then I was assigned......**Signature**

Now THIS is not simple. I would have gone into bolding and sizes...but I have a feeling that would be a thwapping offense. :)

I think Kansas said it best, so far.

As you can see I have different sigs for my different persona's all of which have different reasons for being. Some are longer (Like STSF NDak and Corizon) while Rex and Link's are very short.

One can be "creative" with out being out there in lala land :) Besides you can be creative with your avatar. :P

Wha...huh? ::looks at N'Dak's avatar:: That's not Inuyasha....This is confusing.

There is no "official" policy on signature lengths, other than the one that cautions that we should be polite to each other on the boards.

I, personally, think that a huge picture, along with a large quote of dialog, and past or current character simming history, etc. (anything that takes up several lines of text) that prints to the board over and over again, after each two or three line post of a member is not polite, and in some cases, downright annoying. Thus we should, out of courtesy to each other, keep our signatures to a reasonable length.

In the same vein, I note that some members, who may have large signature sections, only post well thought out, quality messages of respectable size and content, and do not clutter the boards with one ore two line replies to everything they read. In such cases, a large signature does not intrude nearly as much.

Just remember, your signature repeats after every post you make, and witty banter, clever jokes, memorable quotes, etc., may be interesting and even enlightening the first couple times you read it, but become a nuisance after several tens, or hundreds of times.

You can also unclick that "Enable Signature" checkbox when you post a topic if you think you overuse it. :)

And, if you as a user doesn't like them, there is an option in the User Control Panel to turn off all signatures from view.
