Vulcans

Seen worse.

Oh, and I forgot to add to my little description of how I play a Vulcan about mind-melds.

I have no stigma about them (pardon the pun), and the opportunity ahs only arisen once.

Vulcans are good fighters too. We have the superior strength and the mental discipline to feel no pain.

First of all, it is a challenge to play a being without emotion. Granted that I am an accountant and have a head start on this. B)

Second, Vulcans are a very popular race in that other races generally have good feelings and respect for them even as enemies - except, obviously, the Romulans.

Third, there are the nerve pinches, superior strength, mental discipline, mind melds, and some very wild and kinky sex every 7 years. This is actually more sex than many Star Trek fans experience. :)

One of the other topics turned into a "How do you play your Vulcan character?" thread so I figured it would be good to start a new thread here.

So Vulcans real and imaginary, sound off!  How you play your character?  How do you deal with the lack of emotions?  How do you deal with Pon Farr?  Mind melds?

Hm . . . an old thread, but an interesting one nonetheless . . .

I have played several Vulcan characters, and I tend to model them after Spock, the ultimate Vulcan, in my mind. He was, after all, the first.

Only after much practice and watching veteran players did I succeed, and I measured my success by other players' responses to him. I found it difficult to play without emotions, but how I dealt with it? All that was internalized, so I'm not really aware of how it was accomplished. Perhaps that is the key - internalizing your character so the product appears natural.

Pon farr . . . a very personal thing that should be dealt with privately.

Mind melds . . . used infrequently and when all else fails - because of the dangers involved for both individuals. Younger players tend to forget these minor points.

Hey there,

Which to me does beg the question...from the other perspective, who do you think plays the best Vulcan character within the fleet and why?

I've only ever watched T'Vin and T'Parek playing in character, and they're both very good at it. (my character needs WORK)

I dunno, I've only seen a couple of Vulcans in action. Vanroy doesn't get my vote, since he tried to eat my on that one mission...

I supose my vote would have to go to Sovak. He's probably the best Vulcan I've seen played...
