Bridge Duty

1750 hours

USS Morningstar

Lieutenant Cougar’s personal log

It’s finally happened; I’ve been assigned to the bridge. Being an engineer is an important job, and I’ve always enjoyed spending most of my time in Engineering. I’ve sat on the bridge console on Excalibur a couple times but it was nothing permanent. Yesterday, Crispin got orders from Commander Corizon to assign someone to the bridge for the engineering console. Now Crispin was already under a bit of pressure so he acted on impulse and ordered me to the bridge.

Once I arrived on the bridge, Corizon seemed surprised that I came up to the bridge for assignment. Perhaps maybe a bit like, “Why him?” I’m not quite sure why but I got that feeling. I’m second-in-command of Engineering and now they assign me to the Bridge. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy but just a little confused since now I can’t really commandeer Engineering when Crispin isn’t around. However, I believe this will give Tandaris a good opportunity for command skills and some more experience. Technically I’ll still be second-in-command of Engineering and Engineering staff but this time I’ll be on the Bridge instead of Engineering.

The Morningstar’s bridge layout is a bit weird; I had trouble finding the Engineering console. I eventually found Teykier sitting in my seat. She removed herself and carried onto her own console. I sat down and looked at the controls, not too different from the Engineering console on the Excalibur but then again, I was only at that console on Excalibur two or three times.

The day passed pretty quickly. The Bridge is an exciting place but it’s much more exciting when stuff actually happens. Apparently it takes 13 days to get to our destination. This morning I stopped by Engineering before my shift started, I just need to check in everyday. So I may decide to push myself more and possibly throw in a shift in Engineering.

On one last note, I have to say that sleeping in the Barracks is annoying. Crewman Julof snores during the night. Now I can sleep well once I fall asleep, however, I can’t sleep well if I can’t get to sleep at all! What also annoys me about the Barracks is that not everyone sleeps at the same time. I usually go to bed in my Barrack around 2400 hours (Midnight). A couple others go to sleep usually anywhere in between 2000 and 0200. The exception is 2 other crewmembers in the Barrack. Ensign Nihadi goes to sleep around 1400 hours. Ensign Constanza goes to sleep at 0700 hours. This means that you can’t really make too much noise while being in the Barrack.

*sigh*, I’m not going to give up on the hope of Excalibur coming back.
