   Herel rocks back in her chair and laughs and laughs!  A good, hard, deep laugh that feels oh, so good.  

   "Comput.. ah, Holly, delete message and display next."

   "Lieutenant Herel, this message requires a response."

   "Response?  What do you mean a response?  Deleting it is a response, no?"  Herel answers her own question before Holly can, "No, I guess not.  Ok.  Here’s my response, ‘Thank you, oh Starbase 7, for the thoughtful invitation to your annual Talent Show and Costume Ball.  Unfortunately, I have prior duties that will not allow me to attend.’  How’s that?"

   "Sarcastic."

  "You think?  How’s this instead:  ‘No way will you get my * into a costume and make me sing, ‘Killing you all softly with my song,’ or make me whack a Vulcan gong repeatedly until the entire audience is deaf.  Nor will I myself sit and be tortured while some of the most beautiful Klingon arias are tunelessly destroyed by amateurs.’"

   "I don’t think so."

   "I didn’t think you would.  Send the first response."

   "As you wish.  Here’s your next message.  She said, ‘yes.’"

   "She said…?  Who said?  Oh, Bryar!  Good boy.  I told him that that monstrous Trill diamond would do the trick…"
