Those Baffling Humans

Lieutenant j.g. T'Parek

Personal Log

August 21, 2155

Humans always have the quality to baffle me ... no matter how much I discover about the human psyche, there always seems to be another facet to the crystal of the inner workings of the human mind.

Although the loss of Commodore Moose was traumatic to all of the Challenger crew, including myself, I find it peculiar the way that some members of the crew appear to be taking their frustrations out on the new first officer, Commander Amanda Cole.

Certainly, there will be differences in style between the former and current command crews, but some change can be healthy, particularly in an environment where people are kept in close proximity for extended periods of time. This concept becomes even more marked in a situation of such gravity as serving aboard a starship, where fresh ideas and new ways of thinking can assist the crew in many different ways.

I sense some additional wariness of Commander Cole originating in the fact of her service with the Military Assault Command. It would not be the first time that tensions arose between Starfleet and military officers; indeed, my sources imply that when MACO personnel were stationed aboard the Enterprise, NX-01, during the Xindi crisis, many personality conflicts arose. Incidentally, Commander Cole was stationed aboard the Enterprise at that time, so I believe that her firsthand experience with dealing in these matters may prove to be of use here on the Challenger. Nevertheless, as I have not formally met the commander, I hope that I will have the opportunity to greet her with the proper respect and dignity befitting her position and rank.
