USS Morningstar

Lieutenant Cougar’s personal log

Well, this is my first log onboard the Morningstar. It’s a small, heavily armed warship. It’s been designed for battle and for warfare. The worst part is that all officers that are not senior staff nor command staff have to sleep in crew barracks. These barracks don’t give anyone personal time or anything. There are 12 beds per barrack. There are 6 beds on the left and 6 beds on the right. I’m in Crew Barrack 7A which is located on deck seven. We’re given a small locker for personal stuff and a uniform drawer. Luckily each barrack has a small 1m x 1m table and 4 chairs to go with it. I wasn’t surprised that we only have one replicator per barrack. What pisses me off is that we aren’t allowed to bring a lot of personal stuff due to the size of our lockers. Because of this, I have moved all of my items from my quarters on Excalibur to a storage area on Camelot Station.

Now about the Excalibur…

I felt the frustration at the end of the ENG staff meeting with Sorehl. It appears that Excalibur may get scrapped. I offered my opinion on the situation but I don’t think it mattered too much. It was either these options:

- run with 1 nacelle until a new nacelle is available

- build a new nacelle

- repair the current nacelle

- scrap the Excalibur

Running with 1 nacelle isn’t stable and definitely not fast. Other ships have done it before but not a Sovereign class starship. The Excalibur wasn’t designed for running on one warp nacelle.

Building a new nacelle would take too long. Camelot station does not have enough resources.

Repairing the current damaged nacelle would also take a while, again, Camelot station does not have enough resources.

Scrapping the Excalibur is an extreme option. Why scrap a powerful Sovereign class starship over one bloody warp nacelle? That’s why I hope we get towed to the Alpha Quadrant or something of high magnitude.

I guess this may be the end for the ship I’ve served on since I came straight out of the academy. They teach you to not get too attached to a ship but I hope I am not the only one who wants Excalibur to stay commissioned. I bet Admiral Day is feeling pretty sad or angry right now. I was actually surprised when Crispin suggested scrapping her. He’s the chief engineer! Uh, I better calm down. There’ll be other ships…like the one I am currently on, the Morningstar.
