Okay so here it is this is where I will give a piece of star trek technology everyday and people will try to guess what it is or I may do it the other way around and tell you what it does and you guess its name if you have any suggestions for different technologies that would be good for this please pm me so I can put it in the board

Also do not do research just give your best guess

thats the point you have to guess what it is without research and I post the answer at the end of the day

okay everyone the big reveal an arva node is similar to a ramscoop in that it converts surrounding materials into engery

Ramscoops don't actually convert anything into energy. They just harvest interstellar material (usually hydrogen, the most plentiful element). The hydrogen can then be used in fusion reactions to give helium + energy, or, presumably, it can be reacted with anti-hydrogen in a matter-antimatter reactor to give pure energy.

I think I remember reading that in a pinch starships can use the ramscoop to collect matter for use in the warp core. However, I recall that the matter is "dirty" and therefor long term use can damage the dilithium crystals and other system parts.

And from what I recall from HS physics ramscoops are useless because of the relative ( lack of) concentration of "Bussard" particales in space :P

first of all this is star trek not real life Ndak  :P :)

anyway the tech for today is

what is the technology that allows you to go back in time using disks but doesnt allow you to come back to the present

Hint: from TOS

Hey there,

But you need to remember something Mr. Goftar, Star Trek has based a majority of it's technology on sound physics and theory. That's one of the reasons, for a very long time, there were scientific advisors on the writing staff. That's why items such as a "multiplexing beacon" do, in a real sense, make sense. The theory of their operation is sound, as is their application.

In addition, also remember that you are posting on a forum where you have people who've been talking technobable while you were still contemplating how to turn on a computer.

As for your question of the day, I believe they were historical records from the planet Sarpeidon. Via a machine called an atavachron, they are able to transport back in time to the era the "diskette" is about. Episode was titled "All Our Yesterdays..

Never question a GM god...lol.

you can question them, correct them even, but you best make darn sure you are right first....

Okay, rephrasing...Don't question or correct Blu if you serve on her ship...made that mistake twice already...

I debated asking, but my curiosity has taken over... Lo'Ami, what is a lepton?

Hey there,

In answer to your question, they are of alien creation. Serving as a counter to leptons, the lightest class of particles having a nonzero mass, they are used to prevent the use of communications.

Since it's not part of the quiz, I can provide you with research: Leptons are real, they weren't made up by the Star Trek writers. A lepton is a class of elementary particles with quantum spin of 1/2 that doesn't experience the "strong force" Wikipedia link. Electrons and some neutrinos are examples of leptons. An antilepton (like an antiparticle) is the antimatter equivalent of any lepton. Any form of antimatter + its matter component combines to give out energy. That's why a matter-antimatter reactor is perhaps the most efficient form of reactor one can build, assuming one could obtain and confine the antimatter.
