Duty Log of Lieutenant Victor Images M.D

I have returned to a sickbay in a state of a shambles. The recent attack on the station and our lack of a Chief Medical Officer have left the place weaker than it should be.

For starters, the newly installed equipment still needs to be calibrated and checked, the pharmacy needs to be restocked with some of the more-rare substances we’ll need and most importantly, the database needs to be given a good cleanup.

I’m currently giving the computer a look-over and my first impressions are not good. With the system’s own analysis placing the amount of data lost in the 20 to 30 percent range, we need to work quickly.

This loss of information could mean life or death for future patients. The real problem being that even though the computer claims only a 20 to 30 percent loss of data, it may be worse since it’s hard to tell when something actually isn’t there.

There’s also the possibility of corruption in the data streams which is much much harder to discover since the computer will simply acknowledge any data present as accurate. However, a blood type changed here and an allergy changed there could be very very bad for all involved.

It is my opinion that for the overall sake of health and safety onboard Aegis, our first priority should be to hold physicals for all station personnel so that anything distorted in the system will be easily replaced. These physicals do not need to be held immediately but the sooner the better. It would be unpopular I am sure but some of the crew have been magically avoiding their annual physical for such a long time that they are long overdue for one anyway.

Though such an action will fix problems in our own crew medical files, there will still be many types of errors dotted around the rest of the database. The only way I can think of cleaning all of that up is for me to initiate downloads of information from nearby starbases to repair the damage caused and so I have begun to do so already. The task is quite tedious but I realize it is essential.

Another thing. Due to all the time spent in just getting the place up and running again, the amount of paperwork we have built up is astounding. Mimi’s working her way through it diligently.

I have plenty to do but I just wanted to note this down before I continued. Give me open-heart surgery any day. It's chores like these that make being a doctor hard.
