Chief of Security Officer’s Duty Log

OCC: Brian Wrote this, I am just Posting it for him ^_^

Chief of Security Officer’s Duty Log

Lt. Cmdr. Brian Graham Recording

USS Excalibur

Stardate 200507.21

Brian Graham still examined the stillness of the surrounding area. Only moments before a wild animal had bounded through the extensive plant life, startling everyone on the awayteam. Brian hadn’t moved for another five minutes after that, thinking that the animal may have signaled incoming Romulans, bent on capturing some Starfleeters, or whatever the Romulans called Federation officers.

Probably “rubbish” Brian thought, but said nothing. No disruptor fire, no pointy ears, nothing. Brian let out a breath slowly and turned back to the awayteam, taking several seconds to find them all in the dense underbrush. At least they had good hiding places. Moving over to the awayteam so he could talk to them all at once, Brian concealed himself under the leaves of some large plant and reviewed the situation with everyone.

From what they had gathered so far, the Romulans were here, they had a base, and that base was indeed patrolled. Based on what the team had been able to pick up from their tricorders, information was sketchy at best. The teeming lifesigns of the area had also thrown off their sensors as well as those of the Romulan base, but since the Romulans used a clearing for their structure, they had some idea of what was there. A few buildings and support structures, most likely with defensive positions dispersed throughout. Patrols mostly kept to the tree line that surrounded the base; logical since a lot of manpower would be wasted covering too large an area, plus searching an area like this thoroughly would be a wasted effort, especially on a 360 degree radius. The patrols were pretty much all they had to go on. Possibly because of distance, and the very good chance that the base was using something to scatter their probes, they couldn’t get any readings of the population of the base, only that the thing had buildings. Additionally, there were what appeared to be signals of the planet’s native population with the Romulans as well. This definitely deserved a closer look.

The team still had the advantage as far as their mission was concerned. Not having been conclusively spotted, the team could still move forward to observe the base to get a more concrete picture of what the place was like, as a tricorder sometimes had to take a backseat to actual vision. This was one of those times, unfortunately.

With the mission still incomplete as far as Brian was concerned, and circumstances seeming to give evidence of at least a chance of completing it, there was only one decision and Brian guessed everyone would hate him for it.

“We move forward,” Brian said, almost hating himself for saying it.
