Laarell Teykier Personal Log

Ensign Laarell Teykier

Personal Log

I had never felt so, well, proud of myself in my entire life. Although I didn't let it go to my head ... much...

I had never really ventured out of the Science Lab before in my service aboard this ship, and when the Chief of Science, Lieutenant Chen, had me come up to the Bridge and take over the Science console, I was predictably enthused at the prospect of being "in the middle of the action."

However, a few moments after Excalibur was crippled by the enemy weapon fire, I was wishing I was safe in the middle of the ship, in the Science Lab.

But that's not we're in Starfleet for, is it? We're not out here to go scurrying to safety at the first difficulty that we face. No ... we're here so that each of us can serve the Federation and Starfleet to the best of our personal ability. And I intended to give the best of my personal ability.

All of these thoughts were running through my mind when Commander Corizon told me that I had the Conn. I couldn't believe it! An ensign had been given the Conn. ... and not just any ensign ... me! Then again, it probably helped that I was the only other person on the Bridge...

I began an analysis of Excalibur's systems, which didn't look very promising at all. The ship was completely incapacitated with the exception of emergency power which was online and holding, at least for the next week or so.

Even though I did a (hopefully) acceptable job on the Bridge, I still had a sigh of relief when Commander Corizon returned to relieve me of the Conn...
