what about star trek !!!!

with the sci fi channel doing gang busters on reviews of the new episodes, one might

take time to pause and reflect on what vehicle got them to where they are today.

we all know the original series(star trek) ,and should be thankful of the support that

fans world wide have shown and demonstrated over the years, the mere existence

of the star trek web site is a regular testimony to this, why not a revival of the orig.

series placed somewhere in the future time line where kirk is promoted to admiral,

and the rest of the orig.members placed accordingly, with the exception of bones, and

others not physically able to enjoin,,,work up a new series based upon tos, whats

your intrest in this matter, show your opinion, support, ideas, really go where no one

has gone before.........enuff said.... ;)

with the exception of bones

;) I miss Bones. A lot. DeForest Kelley still rules.

A revival of the orginal series, in my opinion, would be a retro super charged ride.

I love the original cast, they are the best. But physically, the only way the original cast would be able to reprise roles would be voicing their characters through animation or computer animation. For actors who have passed, or are unable to work, there are many talented voice actors who could fill in. Big shoes to fill, but doable.

With that said, it would probably be a safe gamble to have a completely new cast for a retro revival. In that case, it would be live action. I don't know about y'all, but after seeing the various incarnations of the orginal series on TNG, DS9, and most recently, Enterprises mirror episodes - the bright uniforms, the sets, the "futuristic 60's" - I think it all looks GREAT!

Either way, sounds interesting and fun to me, but the big question is - who would be willing to undertake this project? Sci Fi Channel - The company seems pretty comfortable with all their breakout hits on Friday nights. Why would they risk taking on a retro Star Trek?

"Revivals" risk coming out as cheap knockoffs. And, by now, the living members of the original ST:TOS cast are ready to play in "ST:Retirement Home." "Battlestar Galactica" is a good counterexample, but, while it has references to BG:TOS, it is, as Ron Moore puts it, more of a "reimagining" than a remake. Unlike BG, so much of ST's fandom is invested in current ST "canon" making it a bit late to completely "reimagine" Star Trek. If there are going to be new episodes of Star Trek, I'd want to see a totally new series, new cast, new ideas, and, new writers. And, I think Enterprise demonstrated just how careful one has to be with Star Trek's established history in order not to upset the fan base. So, IMHO, any future ST series should be set in the late 24th century or later.

Hey there,

I don't think it would be proper, no would it be "accepted" with a remake of TOS. However....that said....

Why not have a series set in the TOS era but on another ship? There were many and I think it would give you the best of both worlds. Perhaps even set it as a ship that's out in the galaxy during the movie era. I mean, in reality, outside of Kahn, there are quite a few years we know nothing about in the Trek world. Heck, Star Trek II, III, IV and V took place within about four months of one another within the universe. We know nothing of what happened after Star Trek V and before Star Trek VI. I think there's be some interesting story telling there.

But as said, I don't think you can redo TOS like Moore's been able to redo Galactica. The major issue is that the show didn't "survive" for as long as Trek has. By that I mean, there were new incarnations of Trek coming out and the universe was being added to. Galactica was...well...outside of those who liked the "old show," that's all there was. The old show and the cheap attempt at a spinoff that most people put out of their minds at the advice of medical professionals.

Okay, we cannot remake the original. No way. I will KILL the Paramount execs if they try that (namely Berman and Braga). A new series in the same timeline with a different ship is acceptable though (to me at least).

a revival of the original series? sure...we could have them on the USS Geezer, and the main plot line would be to find Spocks hearing aids... ^_^ seriously though, that would fly like a lead balloon, TOS is sacred ground to ST fans and the VERY large possiblity of it totally blowing up in Paramounts faces in too high of a risk for them to take (Especially after watching Enterprise crash and burn) as for a "same time period/different ship" thing, how about a "same time period/different species" thing? It would be interesting to see how the alliance came about with the Federation from the Klingon point of view...or do a Maquis series....just a few thoughts...

I think Startrek should stay dead, there are really no more real original ideas that can be used anymore... they're exhausted.
