"Homework"

July 12, 2397

Lt. (JG) M’rrett “Kansas” JoN’s, Assistant Security-Tactical Officer

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Homework”

…”Like when you are older and a bit wiser...”

This phrase kept repeating itself in her head. It was funny what a difference five years or so could make.

The Caitian had just wrapped up her shift for the day and was now preparing to review Phase One of the marine/security games that had been completed. The camera recordings had been made public to any in the crew who wished to review them. Security, marines and the command staff she could understand wanting to access the recordings. Kansas couldn’t imagine sciences or medical particularly caring to. Engineering? Possible, if only to track the rate of damage caused by Alpha and Bravo teams.

“Computer, start playback. Marine/Security indexes. Tango Omega 7 authorization.” She had to put in for authorization to change that access code soon; she kept wanting to say tangerine instead of tango. The ship recordings popped onto the screen and began playback.

Kansas first took in the whole exercise generally. The second viewing consisted of concentrating on tactical aspects team wise. The third time she spotted individual tactical responses of team members, getting a feel for how they handled themselves. Finally, she went back and watched her own performance. Notes were taken along the way, dictated into a padd, to be used for further tactical review.

The security officer liked the level of *professional enthusiasm* displayed by all, which explained why she was still half expecting a surprise attack from her closet. It was good to challenge oneself, and the games had been a challenge and as far as Kansas was concerned, a success. But, as always, there was room for improvement – personally, professionally and team wise.

Five years ago, she would have only given the tapes a half-hearted look, with a by the book report on them, instead just wishing to just jump back into the fray and viewing the paperwork as a nuisance.

Paperwork was still a nuisance, and yes, she would much rather be sniping at someone from the shadows or letting loose with a Mrrowl battle cry and pouncing. But, doing your homework and keeping others informed, i.e. paperwork, also had a place. That place was usually as a pain in the arse, but she did it because, well she was older and wiser and understood that everything was not always an adventure.

**Slightly Mischevious Grin** For the most part.

Mrrowl.
