"Trust"

Apparently I forgot to post this to the boards. Oops.

"Trust"

Harper Log 06.01.05

April 3, 2397

USS Agincourt, Vechwa orbit

"First Officer's Log, Stardate 74255.8

"We have arrived in orbit of Vechwa and, after initial suspicions from the colonial government, have been permitted to beam down both the medicine and teams to assist in distribution. According to the medical files, this treatment appears to work fairly quickly. I anticipate that the situation will be resolved in under twelve hours, and Agincourt will be able to return to her assigned patrol route in less than twenty-four.

"Meanwhile, it seems we may have made strides towards resolving the conflicts between the Marines and ship's Security personnel. With the Captain's approval, Lt. Commander Robair and I intend to implement a series of mixed-team exercises. While I doubt they will resolve the matter entirely, they should at least be informative."

"Personal Log, Col. Charlotte Harper, Stardate 74255.8

"Sometimes I wonder if trust is going out of style. Administrator Morg was one of the worst examples of rampant paranoia I have seen in some time – though admittedly not in Admiral N'Dak's league.

"On the other hand, it is entirely possible to be too trusting. At least, I hope that was the motivation behind the entire bridge crew's willingness to discuss the Klingon situation with an open channel. The alternatives being lax discipline and rank stupidity, I think I would vastly prefer trusting.

"Hopefully that trust can extend to their own shipmates. Commander Robair and I had a carefully civil conversation regarding personnel utilization in the Pax Primus incident. Frankly, I'm not certain what he thinks his people could have accomplished there, beyond getting in our way. Shared operations are all well and good, but mixed teams in that situation would have been an invitation to disaster. Perhaps in a year or two, when people begin thinking of themselves as Agincourt crew first and Fleet or Marine second. A week after launch? No, thank you.

"It will be interesting to see how these exercises go. The territorialism I've seen – on both parts – in the past is not encouraging for our own situation. If I knew how to diffuse it… but I've seen it even in first-year cadets. I hope these exercises are as effective as Commander Robair thinks they will be. We don't need any more ch'Fvens."
