This "European" recognizes lands Original heritage

Espically being a Tater...

I think, the settlement of America, was never and if, but rather a when. America is a resource rich area, with plenty of things for everyone. So, I think someone would have gotten the idea to jump the puddle and build a hut eventually.

Could it have been done better? Yes.

Should have been done better? Yes.

The problem is the times. It's human tendency to become more liberal over time. Maybe a person isn't liberal in thought, but 20 years can change a whole lot of views on things. Not to change the subject, but think of Gay Marriage. In our parents generation, the big taboo was Interacial Marriage. Now, I dont intend on selling any type of opinion, since thats not why I posted. But, I'm trying to make a point, but now Im rambling...

I think, if America was settled later, rather then sooner, things would have gone a whole lot smoother. Lets not forget the time when our humble christians condemed non believers as heethens or such. Once again, not a stab at christians, just noting the times. It was a time of Religious Dogma, Imperialistic Expansion, and all around ignorance of the cultures around them.

Just think how America...rather, the Americas would have turned out if the Europeans hadn't defiled their land, and uprooted the native peoples?

I think, that should be the question of debate...

I don't think that's true. Individuals may grow more liberal as they age and mature, and their priorities change. But mankind as a whole has not been growing steadily more liberal through the centuries. Permissiveness goes in waves, and I guarantee 21st century America would appear absolutely prudish to an Ancient Roman.

Inter-racial couples are commonplace in America today thanks to decades of racial awareness that many people fought hard to achieve. That same awareness doesn't exist yet in South Africa and other countires. It has nothing to do people mellowing over time.

I think if America were discovered today, instead of 600 plus years ago, the thing that would change how the country was settled would be technology. The thought of forming a Second Continental Congress to receive a reply to a letter sent out one year previously by the First Congress, is ridiculous by today's standards of communications. Some of the behavior by the explorers and colonists might have been slightly different if the eyes of the world were on them instantly, and if it took six hours to get here from London.

But I don't think people are fundamentally different today than they were then. There are still people trying to exploit Antartica.

Exploit Antartica? Doesn't it have a population of, like, 8 give or take a couple million penguins?

Absolutely wonderful! I LOVE the feedback(s) here. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and knowledge. Keep it coming! =0]

I think that probably this country would be mostly of Indian desent, naturally, if not "colonized" later. Perhaps the Indians would have built up a big enough army of peoples and would have been able to fend for themselves up to this time in history. Maybe you and I would have been born English, Irish, African, German, or heck, even Indian! Perhaps our cultures wouldnt be as blurred as they are today? I dont know. Maybe thats a bad thing. I just wish the "Europeans" hadnt muscled in on land that wasnt "theirs". Whats wrong with co-habitation?

Well, co-habitation is a noble idea, and in some respects practiced now in modern times. But co-habitation in the past? Again, that brings us to the expansion and conquer desires that have been/are present in many cultures.

It is practiced (cohabitation) at times. Just not constantly.

I just think America isn't as imperialistic as it was back...

Yes, how sad. Just think of the diversity and understanding we have denied ourselves as a culture since then? We could enjoy an environment of such that even makes physical characteristics un-noticable or unimportant. You know, like hair color, facial features, height, weight, age, race, clothing, caste, whatever! If all these things didnt matter, can you imagine how even our government, our judicial system, would be different? Because of lesser feelings, or lack of feelings, of jealousy or hate (usually due to physical characteristics), or because of indifference to importance of a "social ladder", our attitudes towards each other and "things" would be incomparable to those of today, therefore changing the need for keeping order. Yeah, I know. Pipe Dreams.

And on another note, I wonder how the British felt when the Romans conquered and enslaved them?
