If you could remove/alter one thing from canon ...

70 posts in this topic

If you look at that photo closely enough you will see the man in the skirt is a full Commander.

And yet we never saw him again after that episode.

Coincidence? Probably not.

I can't believe you seriously noticed that. Clearly I wasn't looking at the picture as closely ^_^

At any rate, I remembered one other thing I'd like removed from canon. The whole Riker's evil twin bit.

Yeah, the Riker evil twin thing so did not make sense. Transporter accidents like that weren't supposed to happen in the 24th century. The Kirk split personality alter ego thing didn't make sense either...

In my perfect world.. the following would/would not happen:

-Data would have gotten more. It was made perfectly clear in the very first season that he was programmed well.. too bad no one else got to experience it again until First Contact. (Though, in that case.. we could have called it Second Contact for Data. ;P)

- Get rid of Alexander. I hated that kid.

- I really didn't like Ezri much either.. but she had a cool name. Jadzia was awesome.

- Star Trek V.. the whole thing should have just been thrown out. I think I fell asleep during it.. because all I can really remember is the rock climbing. That's it.

- I agree with Miranda on the miniskirt thing. I mean, a woman engineer.. crawling through JT's in those things? Let's hope the future has already gotten rid of the 'thong'.

- Picard should have had a major romance on the show. I would have immensely enjoyed it. And not only because I think he's a very handsome man. Just NOT with Crusher. Ugh. ;P

- Yeah, get rid of Beverly. I hated her.

... okay, this is getting too long. I shall leave it at that.

You know...I always likes Gates McFaden (Pulaski was awesome though). I wish they would have done more with her, I really though she was an awesome actress.

The skirts...oh....yes.

And like I said...if I heard one more word about "The Prophets" this and "The Emissary" who and "The Occupation" I was going to scream. ^_^

And yeah Laeh...those brow ridges...they make N'Dak looks so unattractive.

I agree that McFadden wasn't the problem, it was the Crusher character. The writers really presented her as two-dimensional for the first part of the series, and by the time they started opening her up to more stories, the series was already winding down and they squandered their chances at romance stories. Pulaski was only around for a season but her character established itself better than Crusher's.

The Borg are more suited to movie villains than series villains.

If not that, then Star Trek V. . . . ^_^

Awwwww. Trek 5 is the reason I became a Star Trek fan.

What?

The Caitian's would have been prominent in all Trek series and movies after TAS. They developed the Character so well in the animated series and the novels, but when STTMP came out in 1979, they were left out. Then they were given a bit role in ST 4 (after a letter writting campagn to Roddenberry), and never seen again.

I wouldn't have gotten rid of Trek 5. It was a good concept for a movie, but had one major flaw.... Shatner. William Shatner just cannot write or direct. I think Nemoy should have directed it. It would have been a much better movie. As for Nemesis, I haven't even seen it yet. I refuse to pay to see it, waiting for it to come on HBO. :D

Reportedly Roddenberry wished to ignore most of TAS as non-canon. The Caitians are cool though. :D

And Nicolas Meyer should have been around too. He was involved in Trek IV and VI, both were great movies.

Well, technically you will still be paying to see it. At least, you do pay for your television . . . right? :D :D

For the first episode of the Mirror Universe, when Zefram raised his hand, instead of putting it in his jacket and pulling out a weapon, I would have had him lower all his fingers except the middle one, and then pull out a weapon.

Actually, I get free basic cable and HBO in my apartment. One of the things I'm going to miss when I move to Washington State in August. :D

No way would that get past the censors.

Ironic how you could blow away a complete stranger on TV with a sawed-off shotgun, but flipping the bird gets you in trouble.

Well, it would finally get the show some advertisement.

1. Say goodbye to Janeway. Pretty sad when she had a lower voice than her first officer.

2. Say goodbye to Chakotay. The writers took away all of his masculinity.

3. The whales...gone.

4. Wesley...gone.

5. DS9 needed engines to move.

6. DS9 also needed a better protector ship.

Oh man...just thinking these things makes me tired.

Okay, I got one: The original series ep "The Way to Eden", the one with the space hippies? It was originally slated to be entitled "Joanna" and centering on McCoy's daughter and re written as Eden.

I would have kept it as the "Joanna" episode.

Down with the Space Hippies. I still get wierded out everytime I see that jam session with Mister Spock, and then the one hippie guy sings "Im gonna jump for joy I got a clean bill of health from Dr. McCoy" ahh ahhh ahhh! Make it stop.

I liked Janeway, and Kate Mulgrew did an excellent job. So what she was masculine? There is nothing wrong with finally writting a strong female leadin a Sci-fi/Fantasy, unless of course you feel threatened by that. :D :D

The flipping off is a bit extreme, it's a family program afterall :D

I agree the Caitians should have been more proment in the series.

This was kind of a hard one, I mean, there's so much junk that's been written in the name of Star Trek ... :: runs away as flame bait ::

My list:

Every time Spock lost control of his emotions in the third season of TOS. For reference, that pretty much means nixing the entire third season of TOS.

From the movies, I can agree with everyone who said Star Trek V.

From TNG, every reference to Tasha Yar after they killed her character.

That Voyager episode where they reach warp 10. It made no sense. Add to that the whole of the first 3 seasons of Voyager. I wouldn't want to nix Janeway completely. I think they finally made her into a better character in the later seasons, along with the show's general improvement.

The whole Xindi arc on Enterprise... messed up history way too much. Oh, and, "A Night in Sickbay" should be erased from existence, let alone canon.

Though of something else. Romulans. I agree with some other posts - we need more.

I think I'd like to see more Rommie going's on, more developement of them whether series wise or even book wise. Keith DeCandido has a whole book series based on the Klingons. Diane Duane (bows head) has done great Romulan books in the past, and I'd love to see her write more expansions, even concentrating on a single crew as DeCandido has. Oh, and I'd like to see the old school Romulans sans brow ridges.

I know books aren't canon, so definitely more development TV / movie wise.

I agree. It seems to me that the writers had a hard time making the women strong and yet sexy. I always wished they had done more with troi then just making her say I feel pain while wearing small costumes. ::shrugs::

And kestra, this is for all the men and women in starfleet who had to wear the mini

::pulls out a lighter and a miniskirt unifrom and sets it on fire::

Janeway sounded too much like my science teacher in Grade 9, it ruined the show for me.
