Graduation Stories

29 posts in this topic

A place for you to share your graduation story. Here's mine.

Sunday, 11:00 sim, STSF_Sketti commanding

When the order to request posts came through, I sent Sketti a PM asking if I could serve at either Helm or OPS. He sent a message back to me saying he wanted to put me somewhere else, so I replied and told him to take his pick, which he said was "cool". When the roster was posted, I found out he had assigned me to serve as Mission Executive Officer. I was a little nervous since I hadn't played in a command position before, but I enjoyed it. I got to lead an away team (well, sort of. The ship crashed and I had to find shelter for the crew and they had to follow my orders because Sketti disappeared.) and give orders for once. Unfortunately, my entire crew was killed by Jem'Hadar (though we suspected it was the furry creature), and I died too.

When the sim ended, Sketti asked what the lesson involved was and got answers like "Don't follow furry creatures", "Kill furry creature", and "Don't play in Sketti's sims." We never found out the real lesson because he said the furry creature didn't kill anyone and then ordered me to front and center. Then he impaled my neck with a HUGE pip, and the CMO had to treat the wound.

That's my story. What's yours?

I graduated about a month ago at the Wednesday academy with Atragon and Dacotah. I'd been playing just about every academy since the previous Saturday and I was starting to feel slightly better about the whole thing.

I was posted as chief engineer which terrified me because I actually had someone under me. The action statements were basically "ACTION --> another critical engineering system breaks down". Several officers came into engineering to help me, so I was busy trying to delegate things and not blow the ship up. Everytime I tried to fix something, another system went down. The sim ended with me crawling in a Jeffries Tube, an AENG in tow. I think we had less than a minute until the ship blew up (I don't remember exactly).

Apparently they graduate you even if you can't fix a single system.

I had so much fun that academy, engineering went to the top of my list and now I'm an AENG on the Arc.

Well, when I graduated from junior college they called my name, I went up to the podium, high-fived the President of the college, and made sure my jungle boots were highly visable underneath my cap and gown.

A couple years later when I graduated from *real* college - or close enough, it was San Jose State after all - it was at the football stadium. It was a long and hot ceremony (Why the heck do they make you wear those long black robes in 90 degree heat?) but fortunately I snuck in a six pack and started handing out beers to my friends, including the faculty. Then during the keynote speach someone released a bunch of those balloon-ball things and we made so much noise playing volleyball with them - again, faculty included - that they had to send security guards in to take them away from us.

Oh, you meant ACADEMY graduations. Well, here is mine.

I had asked for OPS but was instead assigned as HELM. Our ship was adrift so the only thing I could do was work with Engineering, but by the time Starfleet had been contacted and a rescue ship arrived we had already restored partial main power and could pilot ourselves back to spacedock under our own power, so that's what I did. The tow ship escorted us in but other than that it ended up not being needed. A9 graduated me (I bet he regretts THAT decision) and I was later assigned to the Reaent as HELM and then HELM/OPS.

Just keep the CO's happy.

I was on a Wed. Sim with Atragon and Dacotah. I was CSEC and we were transporting a very annoying delegate somewhere. All they did was keep asking questions about what all the buttons were for on the bridge. We made it down to Engineering and someone died...somehow (Don't remember...).

Dac was disappointed, but thankful that I got the nuisance off her Bridge.

Therefore...I'm alive and kicking...A year and a half later.

Boy...this takes me back...

Lets see, I'm pretty sure it was a Tuesday acad, the 8 pm one mind you. This was a time when I couldn't sim so late, so I had only been to three acads over the course of three weeks

Now, also mind you, these were the times when you were lucky to get 5-6 people in an acad, not like the last two I just attended which seemed to have 20+. So, the entire crew goes down on this away mission. Somehow, our engines get messed up, and we end up crashing in the ocean, and sinking. While our one engineer works on the engines, I set up some invention with the transporters (dont ask me how) to keep the water out. I think it like collected in one area, and then we beamed it out of the ship.

Anyways, ship gets fixed and we fly away and I graduate. In retrospect, I dont know why we didn't just beam of the shuttle...But eh, it got me my Ensign pip.

I ended up as an ASCI on the Reaent, and went on to have many promotions, demotions, affairs, shootings, and random acts of canibalism.

Heh heh.. my graduation story, eh? That seems like eons ago, but let's see if I can remember... (Blu probably could better than me)

Anyways, this was with Blu and KBear.. I was the Helm officer of a shuttle craft. I believe I was trying to prevent the shuttle from exploding, from a warp failure. But, unfortunately, I wasn't very sucessful. My crew ended up floating in space (we had airsuits on) and a large piece of shuttle debris hit me in the back. Yeah, so eventually we got beamed back to our ship and afterwards, I graduated then joined the Rep, Hood and Arc one week after. This was 12 May 2003, way before STSF limited new graduates to one ship only.

Not from me you didn't. My acts of canibalism were not random at all. They were carefully orchestrated.

Let's see before I start telling my story I have to say that the only post I feel I'm not capable to handle is engineering.

It was the monday night acad with Blu and LoAmi. So here I am requesting a post in medical but I get to be AENG instead. Everybody was AENG as I recall except for Blu who was CO (and got herself killed very soon) and LoAmi who was CENG (or was it?...my memory's not as good as it used to be).We were split into teams of 3 AENGs and somehow I managed to be somewhat of the leader of my team. We had to do some mining with phase drills and there was gas leaking from some fissure and of course we managed to blow the whole thing up. So basically what happened was that most of the teams were trapped in some cave and ours was the only one that managed to escape (action statements said so).

The astonishing thing about my graduation was that I had missed ALL action statements because I was busy making up some technobabble. Somehow I had managed, however, to accidentally act according to the action statements (as I found out after reading the sim log).

Anyway to this day I think I make a lousy engineer and I hope every time I play in an academy that I'll not end up being one.

That's funny. My first academy I was posted as an AENG and after it was done, the first thing I thought was "I definitely never want to do engineering again."

Clearly that changed. Now my request is usually any post except science.

I think I was in that sim too.

I always request anything but science or medical. (Imagine that, a Vulcan who refuses to do science.)

Hmm, let's see if my memory is up to snuff. I graduated two sunday's ago, in a Sketti and Precip sim. I asked for medical or security, but I was asked if I was ok with something else. I said that was fine with me, and I ended up as helm. I think the ship was transporting a delegate to some planet, but the delegate was somekind of invisible energy being. The invisible thing ends up in my helm console, and I get an action statement saying that my console starts to melt down. Hehehe, good times. Except when the pip was nailed into my neck by a large ax.

Is that why he runs around with a "Lightsaber" with thoughts of delusion and granduer? ^_^

It was in Precip's and KBear's Academy.

I played the Chief of Security and I was sent a big official note from the Federation to take the Captain into custody. So, I get a little weirded out, but go and start doing it anyway. I mean, it's from an Admiral! Then, as the Captain is doing that .. I talk to the XO in the Ready Room about how weird this is .. when another crew member begins shooting up the bridge. They promptly manage to kill the XO and most of the other crew members and it's just me and them. I am trying to save everyone .. then I get PUNTED.. come back and find out I was shot and then transported into space.

I always miss the good stuff. ^_^

But hey, I got graduated that night. I guess they were impressed with my floating through space dead skillz. Mwah. It was fun.

I was actually with SFOL when it was SpaceFleet Online with AOL. My first graduation was in a SIM with Malmute. I left for a short time, but when I came back (6 years ago maybe), I started over again. I joined an academy SIM on a Friday(?), I believe, with Moose and another GM whose name I cant recall. We were on some mission in dangerous waters (naturally) and I was posted as the CMO. Several Romulan's had beamed onboard the bridge where I happened to be and security started shooting at them. One of the injured Romulan's fell near me and I, being the Good Doctor I was portraying, rendered aide to him through the battle. I was graduated in the end because I "remembered my hypocratic oath." Unfortunately, Moose only graduated me so he could then court martial me for rendering aide to the enemy. I just cant win! =0]

During the sim I got about three GM IM's saying, "Haven't you graduated yet??" lol. By the end of the sim I had a sneaking suspicion that I'd be graduating that night.

hhhmmm. Lets see, I got my pip from Lebowski. Yay for Lebowski. Anyway I don't remember all the details other than being the CENG and blowing up half the ship. And that folks is why I am in medical. Thanks again buddy.

Must we Romulans always be portrayed as the wicked, sneaky brigands of the Star Trek Universe?

That's so sweet that you'd take care of a Romulan the same as one of your own. That will give him a second chance to stab you in the back when you're not looking.

You bleeding hearts amuse me.

No, seriously... I want to pull out your hearts and watch them bleed. I get great satisfaction from watching that very odd iron rich blood spurting interesting patterns on the ceiling.

::Broad, evil grin.::

Joking! I'm just joking!

N'Dak ... tell the people I'm joking! :P ::Innocent look.::

As to my graduation story ...

I'm also a product of SFOL on good old AOL.

I can't remember anything about my graduation. I was probably drunk at the time (no, not really) or maybe that just decided to pass me in hopes that I'd stop hanging around the academy sims and quit harassing the cadets. Needless to say, they didn't know me very well. ::Grin.::

The RES Talon was the ship I posted to straight out of the Academy, all wet behind the ears. Greenhorn and all that.

Not only was I thrown into the Star Trek universe, but I had become a Romulan as well. It took me several weeks before I actually understood what people were saying. Now that I think about it though, I still don't know some of those words that t'Rex comes up with. ^_^

She's only joking people, she'd never watch your blood spurt all over...if only because she'd have to clean it up. No...she'd much rather just disrupt you and get it over with...though she did have a little to much fun with that plasma infuser...::goes off, rubbing the scar on his chest::
