Don't know the name or the place, other than it is somewhere in Africa, but her native language is Swahili.

I believe...unless it was mentioned somewhere in an obsure book...Uhura is her first name (Her last name escapes me at the momment.) Her country of birth is United States of Africa, Earth. ;)
