Time to start thinking about ShoreLeave 2006!!

193 posts in this topic

My question would be for what date would we be shooting for, and from when to when would be staying in town?? (i.e Friday-Sunday or Friday-Monday, etc. etc.). As this could majorly change the rates of a hotel stay.

Hey there,

Normally, it takes place a weekend in July. Most reservations take place from Friday - Sunday, with a few sometimes arriving that Thursday for an extra day.

A Cruise For Shore Leave 2006!

Everyone would like Shore Leave to come to their front door, but no one has really made a case for it! If you really want everyone to be interested enough to spend money to come to see your city, then you need to sell your city! Don't just post a few lines filling the requirements set down by the committee, really put it out there! You have to ask yourself, if you were going to spend money... what would make you want to come to your city?

My proposition for Shore Leave will need to be downloaded. It is a PowerPoint presentation that is a slightly large file. I apologize to those who have dial-up.

Please follow this link to download the presentation:

http://www.garrettbernard.com/garnoopy/SLW.zip

File size: 4.16 MB

Once downloaded, open the file "Presentation". In the menu click "View", and then "Slide Show". This will start the presentation. Use your arrows to move between slides.

If you do not have PowerPoint, then PowerPoint Viewer can be downloaded from this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

If you are still unable to view the presentation, please send me an e-mail and I will package the file such that you are able to view it. The reason for the above formats is that these were the smallest files I could put together without packaging the entire program.

Deadline for submissions: Halloween 2005.

The STSF SOC will announce their decision (which could be Vegas again, you never know) by the end of the year. This way, folks can start saving their Latinum to come join us in '06, if they like what we're planning.

Ohhh, how spooky. The end of submissions has come! Wherever shall SLW be in 2006?! Guess we'll ge to find out soon!

Oh sure, now that it's my busy season! Whose idea was that, anyway? Hey, Garn, if you can, can you put your proposal into an email-friendly format just for me? Me and downloading software is like cats and fresh concrete - not a good combination. Send to CaptainHuff @aol.com. If not, I'll give it another shot when I get a break... eesh.

Halloween is your busy season? What, do you only know how to play the theme from "The Addams Family"?

A Cruise For Shore Leave 2006!

Everyone would like Shore Leave to come to their front door, but no one has really made a case for it! If you really want everyone to be interested enough to spend money to come to see your city, then you need to sell your city!

::coughcough::: Sell my city? Uh...well . . .

We have cows - that are usually in the middle of the road because Frenchie (that's his real name) has decided it's the town's fault that his fence is down. I had to edit this 'cause I left out the really good part: his farm is on a sharp curve and guess where the cows love to be - you got it! One of these days someone's going to be late to work, round that curve at 50 or 60 and wind up with 500 lbs of hamburger meat on his hood. ::sigh::

We have horses - yeah - those are cool. We have a pharmacy, 3 gas stations, and a Dunkin' Donuts - OH..and a traffic light - just one, but a light is a light - we're big-time, yanno.

::thinkthink:: Hm...

We have two fishin' ponds, a library, a bank, three churches, a deli, a gourmet Italian bakery, two hair salons and a BUNCH o' grain stores.

And you missed all that 'cause I missed the deadline. Well - maybe next year.

Well, my guess would be that given what A9 said, "by the end of the year," they have until Saturday night. Of course, this year they have an extra second.

lol, yeah, someone should post it. The problem is that it's been really close, and I think we're all afraid to put a stamp on the final location, because we *know* that people will be disappointed no matter where it is, and vacation should be a happy thing. (The internet would be a great place if it didn't reach so far and wide, right?). So I'm going to be a coward and officially pass the buck to A9 to post it.

Huff isn't kidding. The votes were SOOO close between the top 2 choices that we got different results depending on which tabulation method we used.

Ultimately we had to turn the vote counting over to this guy:

I can imagine that that's the number of votes for whatever location you chose

The 2006 SLOC (ShoreLeave Organizing Committee) would, first and foremost, like to thank everyone for their fine suggestions and the effort and resources they expended on behalf of their various proposals (can you tell I work in Washington, DC?)

Step One: Date

Step Two: Location

Step Three: Details, Details, Details

DATE: July 13-16, 2006

LOCATION: Orlando, Florida

DETAILS: We are looking at a variety of hotel/resorts (none of them on the property of a certain frozen guy who was into rodents) and details will be available soon.

Thanks.

-A9

Wooo hooo, Florida! Angie and I are making plans right now. We're going go to shoreleave, then hop over to the other side of the state and visit my mom in Dade City. Thanks A9 and the rest of the Shoreleave Committee. ;)

Zaphod,
