Travis Kroells

The cheese part 1

The Cheese Part 1...Kroells’s logs

Travis stood quietly at the entrance to the Jeffries tubes.  From Lt. McLean’s knowledge of Intrepid class vessels, this was the deck where the auxiliary computer core was to be found.  Due to the heavy shielding protecting all Starfleet vessels from attack or disablement of any kind it was also the place where they were most likely to find any survivors.  Travis heard McLean comment about the amount of time they were spending here so the team began to move forward.  Travis scanned the barren and dead caverns of the ghost ship…not really expecting to find anything but he figured that if he stuck to the book he might get out of hot water with Fred and Ridire.  He continued to walk down the corridor noticing several lighted panels and some power cords lying all over the floor.  Travis quickly walked towards the consol finally hoping for some answers.  McLean obviously saw him moving in as he ordered the team to hold position.  Travis forced his body to obey the order feeling that for once he really needed to control himself.  He managed to come to a complete stop waiting for McLean’s order.  He walked up to Travis and asked to find out where these power cables where running from and how they were powering the few panels left working on the ship.  Travis quickly bent down examining the cables and at the same time getting a closer look at them.  They were definitely power cables.  They were most likely being used to power the panels by means of a portable generator nearby.  McLean seemed satisfied with Kroells’s answer as he moved in towards the still functioning panels.

Travis stood in the middle of the hall way not sure of what to do.  Garnoopy had ventured further on ahead checking for more survivors while McLean had started to work with the panel.  He was a scientist not an engineer or security officer!  He was supposed to be roaming the ship finding the cause of this holocaust.  He was fighting the idea to ask for permission to head off to find the cause of this when he heard Garnoopy announce the finding of a survivor, an honest to goodness survivor!  Travis exchanged surprised glances with McLean as they both hurried to Garnoopy’s position.  Once He and McLean had reached the newly promoted security officer Travis couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to the survivor that he had reported until he noticed the noise he was making.  Garnoopy had obviously stumbled upon him and called Travis and McLean to the situation before reveling the away team to the person.  Garnoopy and McLean discussed for several seconds about the actions they should take as to how to deal with the mystery man.  Travis was getting rather frustrated with the bureaucracy needed to help a injured man on a ship blown half to hell and was to the point where he was just going to shine him and announce the presence of an away team trying to locate and help survivors of the incident, until Garnoopy beat him to it.  Travis stepped back in a way frustrated that he had once again been beaten to the punch.  After some discussion the now obviously Bajoran man named Aerso lead the now quartet to the auxiliary computer core.  Once the door had opened Travis couldn’t believe what he had seen.  About 40 surviving crew members from what was left of the Cairo were huddled up into this room…the way they were positioned…Travis blankly stared at the crowd as the memories flooded his synapses.

It was a rainy day at the streets of St. Paul, the capital of Minnesota before the countries of Earth put aside their differences in the means to better human life.  Obviously Travis had never known the ways of earth before the first warp flight so long ago.  He quietly walked the sidewalks of downtown, no noise being made other than the constant droning of the rain and the occasional splashes of other people walking by.  Travis had always wanted to see Earth at one of its most pivotal moments in history.  So often the human race had come so close to destroying its self but all ways managed to avoid the guillotine.  He could see the old capital building in the back ground.  He saw the large golden horses at the near top of the building.  Back in the 21st century when gold had been a precious commodity the statue was simply lined with at paper thin sheet of gold.  Now a days when gold was not a means of money to most races you couldn’t find many things that weren’t solid gold.

Travis finally reached his destination.  The catholic synagogue in the heart of St. Paul.  Travis slowly entered determined to remove most of the moisture from his now soaking academy uniform.  By the tiny pips on his neck it showed that he was a junior in the science department.  After being dry to satisfaction he slowly entered the place of worship.  He slowly walked towards his point of destination, the confessional booth.  He nodded and greeted several priests that walked by in a speedy but still polite manner.  He arrived at his destination just as an other man stepped out of the booth.  Travis sighed and walked towards and then entered the booth.  He had a feeling that what he was about to confess would travel to many eyes as insane but he could not continue with the feelings that were contained in his heart.

…End Part one.
