FAQs?

There seem to be quite a few questions that keep coming up on the boards.

Some of them are:

How do I get started?

What's the difference between an academy and an advanced sim?

How do I join an academy?

When are the academies?

Where are the academies?

What do I do in order to graduate?

How long does it take to graduate?

What do I do once I've graduated?

Maybe we should put up a FAQ list, both on the boards (pinned? its own topic?)  and on the STSF main page.  Most of the questions are answered in one sentence or less, or simply by a direct link that specifically shows where to go and/or directions how to get there.  New people seem to have a lot of trouble figuring out where our chat rooms are.  Some of the questions are more in the realm of "advice" from other players/GMs.

I'm sure there are more of them, but I haven't gone through the boards to find them.

I have to agree Loami. There are so many questions which need just 1 quick lined answer. There are even a lot of questions that once you graduate you wonder about. If the Webby agrees, we might want to create a list of questions.

On the title page for this stsf website (look up and click "home") there is a gigundo paragraph called "Getting Started" which includes a link called "getting started" that has many of those very questions answered.  :)

On behalf of all stupid people, I'd like to say that the "getting started" section isn't enough!

I agree with having a message board pinned with the information. Plus another link on the main site that says "CADETS! GO HERE!" and another link that says "ARE YOU NEW? CLICK THIS!!!" or "CONFUSED? CLICK HERE!"

That way we prevent anyone from being left out.

I'm well aware of that - the getting started section is a great place to learn the basics of simming; however, if it were that obvious, we wouldn't keep getting the same posts on the boards.  Also, it doesn't have very specific instructions telling people where to go.  Something in a FAQ format (with lots of more conspicuous links to it) that actually had both direct links to the other resources and instructions on how to get to them without going through the FAQ page might be helpful.

I think we need a FAQ section. When I started, I didnt fell like reading the entire getting started thing. It would be easyer to just have a 1 pg FAQ, ansering all the basics, the any other questions, they can send a PM to Dac, A9, Garnoopy, erein Vor'Tic (had to put me in that list), and anyone else who is a XO and up including people who are game GM's

FAQ section is something I've been working on for a while.  I've got one thats actually working....  BUT....  I don't like it.  I want more features and functionality with it.

I'm going to start a topic and pin it in the Academy folder (next to Moose's tips!) for you to offer your questions and answers.  Please feel free to submit a list of questions and answers you think would be helpful for new members.

Update:

Check the pinned topic in the Academy folder.  I'm posting several of the FAQ's I've done so far to be included.

Feel free to add your own to the topic.  :D
