Accessing joint log…

Ensign Pinner Chase

Ensign T’vin

Stardate 0506.02

Sitting quietly at his post at Science 1, on the bridge, Chase looked on with anxiety at the information on his cartographic panel.... “It's as if it never existed...”

T’vin sat next to him at Science 2, thinking of the all-to recent drama of the past (or present) few days... “Never?” she said a bit too quietly for his ears.

“Run a scan for anomalous activity near the break in the quadrant...try to back track the sensor logs...” She nodded, taken up with the challenge. But Chase looked on in frustration, as every series of data he attempted purging and remastering simply faded in to nothing. He muttered mostly to himself “It's got to be there... we finished this whole sector... no simple piece can just disappear! There has to be a break in the sensor logs.”

T’vin, now clearly doubting to find much of anything, continued back-tacking the logs, anyhow. “Have you found anything, Mr. Chase?” she said solemnly. Chase did not even acknowledging his partner's words, at first, stared ahead.

“Umm...” he stuttered, “no, nothing...All I can do is try every procedure in the book..” “Chief is gonna kill me.” he said quietly not wanting T'vin to think less of him. She raised her eyebrow in amazement. “I highly doubt, Mr. Chase, that Commander Lo 'ami would resort to homicide,” She was ‘pulling his leg’ in her rare Vulcan fashion. Chased paused for a moment. His head beginning to ache. He turned to view once more the people working around the bridge, he knew that everyone was tired.

“ T'vin,” he said, explaining, “it's not so much a matter of the physical act, as it is the dressing down I'll receive for "misplacing" logs that were never there...”

She nodded, as if she were laughing, “I see”

Nothing, still nothing. “I think we need a break, but it's not like we can leave the bridge,” said Chase in despair. T’vin, still hoping to find something in the logs, kept checking but found nothing useful.

“I am at a loss, as well.”

Chase leaned in, as she looked over his shoulder viewing the blip. “That can't be right...” he said, “even at high speed play back it's moving at the same speed.”

T’vin raised her eyebrow again, “That is highly irregular, almost impossible.” She placed a peculiar emphasis on the word “almost”.

“Almost?” he repeated flustered, “it shouldn't be possible at ALL!” Chase tapped on the console, isolating and enhancing the blip.

“There are always possibilities.” She retorted.

“ Well, frankly, I don't want to know if there are. At least not on my watch...” his voice trailed off as he continued to run the playback on the scans. The Vulcan nodded in agreement and resumed her review of the cartographic logs. “T’vin, run a data copy of this on to a disk so we can save all of it. I'm not letting this computer kill this discovery anymore than it already has,” he said, frustration aimed toward the computer before him. Ensign Chase paused the playback, allowing his partner to gather all the data they'd isolated in the astrometric mystery while she silently began copying the data flashing past her screen.

T’vin broke the long silence between them. “Have you alerted the Chief to this matter? Perhaps,…” but she didn't finish, not knowing exactly what to recommend.

“Not yet, we'll show him once we finish the download...”
