Another Trek Book

I just finished reading Book # 8, "A Time to Heal", from the "Time to" series of TNG.

The book did not knock my socks off, but I found it really enjoyable thanks to certain elements. Mainly, all the Security exposure (go Redshirts), as well as some Fleet Jarhea..I mean, Marines ;) in the form of Special Operations appearances. The portions of the book dealing with the security ops really kept me interested. It was Star Trek meets a modern military thriller in some parts, and this was done as "totally Star Trek" if you know what I mean. Add some political intrigue, character interactions, rogue elements, and we are good to go.

One note: I was fine reading this book as a stand alone, but it is part of a series of books. I haven't read # 1-7. I plan on checking out Book #9 "A Time for War, time for Peace".

Happy reading. ;)

I read the entire series. I got sucked in, although I can't say I loved all the books. I think it just wasn't really my style--none of the books were really bad though. And they were definitely interesting. I'd love to know what you think if you read any of the others.

Have you read "Homecoming" by Christie Golden? It's a Voyager book I just read. I was disturbed to find out that Tom and B'Elanna's child was named Miral, because that's my character's last name.

I landed up picking up one of them at the bookstore. I think it was "A Time to Love" or maybe "A Time to Hate" either way I red them both. It was a two parter type of story. I like them but for some reason I didn't read the rest. Then the last book came out and I decided to read it. The only problem I had was the fact that I didn't get all of the refrences cause I had missed out on a few of the books. I liked it, but I would read the others books first so you get the entire story.

I will be checking out "A Time for War.." when I get the chance (and get through my current pile of Trek books to be read lol). Not sure about all the others in the series.

As for "Homecoming", have not read it, not 100% into the Voyager books. But I am thinking of picking up I believe its called "Spiritwalk"? Chakotay is now Captain of a ship? It was released a few months ago.

I've only read a couple of other Voyager books myself. I generally stick to TNG. I picked up "Homecoming" just before going on a trip, and was somewhat pleasantly surprised. It's actually continued in a book called "Farther Shore" I believe, so you have to get those two together. Spirit Walk One and Two come after Farther Shore. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the Homecoming and Farther Shore first, but I think it made it much more enjoyable. I liked both the Spirit Walk books for the most part, but it kinda fell apart for me at the end.

So to clarify, this is technically the order:

1. Homecoming

2. Farther Shore

3. Spirit Walk (Part I)

4. Spirit Walk (Part II)

Let me know if you read any of them!

Cool to hear!

I've a decent but kinda small variety of ST books from over the years. Most of them have been good reads. There was one DS9 book I had a tough time reading through since IMHO was just plainly "dry". It was titled something called 'Prophets' or 'Prophicies' or 'Harbinger' or something, was a HardCover with Sisko & Ds9 on the front cover, and featured some grey haired old dude in a dark trenchcoat & brimmed hat that kept on bugging Sisko in the holodecks.

To be honest, i've not read a ST book in quite a while. (I think my SW book collection has surpassed my ST collection) The last being from Shatner's own serries, the most current Duology- Captains Peril + Captains Blood. Have yet to read the second part. I've always enjoyed his books, reading about the good ol' James T Kirk just won't give up.

Heres the serries in chronological order:

(William Shatner with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens)

* Federations (alternative replacement to "Generations" movie)

* The "Return" Serries:

-- The Ashes of Eden

-- The Return

-- Avenger

* The "Mirror Universe" saga:

-- Spectre

-- Dark Victory

-- Preserver

* Star Trek Nemesis Sequel:

-- Captain's Peril

-- Captain's Blood

I have to ask - are the "Time too..." books fairly good reads as in they keep your attention for most of the time? Usually gets underway right at if not close to the start of the book? To me, those are the most enjoyable reads, definate page turners.

Also cool to hear about the Voyager books. I've got the first 12 or 15 of them which was when I didnt yet have any possible means of getting cable or satelite to watch them on tv. I didnt know about those last few books - I mean i seen them on the shelf but didnt give them more than a quick glance (as i was uaually picking up the next latest SW novel at the time.) Hey, does "Homecoming" offer more of a serries finale sorta thing , better than the finale Voy tv episode (which found was rather short and lacking) ?

At any rate, I think i'm definately going to be getting back into ST books more mainstream. IMHO the sw books are kinda losing my interest as i'm not very fond of the prequel era books.
