The New Arrival

There is a downside to researching your electronics and buying reliable ones that last a long time, and that is... they last a long time! lol.

Although Old Crappy isn't completely dead yet, the sleek new toy has arrived and we're in the process of getting 'er all set up and networked, files transferred, blah blah blah. Yay! Look forward to more of me now that I don't have to sit around for ten minute reboots every twenty minutes. :D ::knocks on wood desk, just in case::

I can almost hear the "2001: Space Odyssey" theme as you turn it on for the first time. ;)

Oh hell I didn't pay attention to all the numbers and names of the latest bells and whistles... they'll be obsolete in 3 months anyway, lol. It's big and black with a big Trekish flat screen. It starts when I turn it on. It does not make my coffee for me. ::Must write to Dell about that::

Hey Huff, I know that drawer with the hole that slides out when you press that button looks like a coffee holder, but it isn't. You are supposed to put disks in there. That's not what they mean by "java". ;)

It's interesting you've just bought this kind of laptop Fred, I was considering getting the Inspiron 6000 for a while until the new Latitude D810 came out that has caught my eye. (I need a new laptop within the next two months).

What do you think of the 6000? It seemed a little bulky to me but I haven't handled one so I wasn't sure. How heavy does it seem?

Hey there,

Well, bang for your buck, I'm finding the laptop to be perfect. After I'm finished with some things that are coming up in the next few months, it will be plugged into a docking station and become my primary PC. Thus far I have no complaints with it.

Sometimes the newest thing on the market isn't the best. I mean, keeping the above in mind, I don't need the largest screen. Heck, I would have gone for a 14.5 screen but in order to get the dedicated graphics system I wanted needed to be at this level. ::shrug::

Yeah, I need something more portable since my laptop will be for on-the-go work. I, unfortunetly, need something that is top of the line for some advanced software I will be running in the next few months.

Thanks for the info.

Well, congrats on the new arrival ;)

Theres one thing about laptops, its make sure you've got the important bells and whistles when you buy it :P

Having looked at those specs, I know for a fact you got a good one B) Video cards are usually the weakest parts in the laptop, and its safe to say that Radeon X300 is a dandy little chip of a performer by today's current standards. They're not the muscle gamer cards but they can handle all of the games on today's shelves. And top notch video file & dvd playback to boot :D

Lets just say i've got friends who've went out and bought new laptops, sparkling about them as they read me the specs. Usually everything sounds good until they get to the video card and i pretty much fall flat on the floor, unable to comprehend why they'd buy a lappy with such a weak old video card that was midrange 3 yrs ago, obsolete today...
