Family History

Kestra’s mother, Simrin, was originally married to a Human and lived on Earth. They had two children, Karthik and Kavita. Her husband died of a medical condition right after Kavita was born, and Simrin continued to work at their medical practice and raise the children on her own. She soon met Andrus Miral, and after a few years they fell in love and were married. The family moved to Betazed where Kestra was born shortly after. There has never been any tension from the remarriage. Andrus is accepted as the children’s father, and Kestra is never distinguished as a half sibling.

 

 

Personal History

Kestra Miral spent her early childhood on Betazed, growing up with her half brother and sister. As they were fully human, it was difficult for them to adjust to the customs of Betazed and the family eventually moved to Earth. Kestra's family has always been close, and continues to be despite the distances existing between them now.

 

As a child, Kestra's empathic powers were difficult for her to manage and she began to withdraw socially. She felt overwhelmed by the emotions and problems of others. She began spending more time by herself, working on various machines and appliances because those were problems she found herself able to fix (as opposed to those of people). Although Kestra eventually learned to deal with her empathic powers more maturely, her interest in engineering continued to develop. Once she was old enough, she followed her sister into Starfleet and was posted to the Arcadia soon after graduation from the Academy.

 

Kestra has only been in one romantic relationship of any note. During her first year at Starfleet Academy, she became involved with a third year cadet, Jason Drake. Their relationship rapidly turned serious and continued after his graduation and subsequent post as a security officer. They spent two years communicating through subspace until he was able to visit Earth again during leave. Their relationship ended during Kestra’s graduation from the Academy, which Jason attended. She has only shared the details of this with her sister Kavita, and her Academy roommate, Sara.

 

 

Psychological Profile

Kestra is a diligent and cautious individual. She learned at an early age that many successes could be earned through hard work. This attitude got her through the Academy. While not among the most naturally gifted engineers, her dedication to the job often puts her nearer to their level. This level of work also keeps her social life to a minimum, however.

 

Polite and friendly, Kestra does not find it difficult to make acquaintances but has few friends. She is slow to open up to people but is fiercely loyal to those she feels close to. Among these she is practically a different person, with little of the serious side that others perceive.

 

Kestra has a history of problems with her empathic side, stemming from an early development of these abilities when she was a child. She has found ways to deal with these issues adequately, but declared that she could never pursue a career in counseling. Her telepathy is barely developed, and she can only communicate telepathically with her father.

 

 

Additional Notes

Name: Her brother and sister often call her "Kessa", from when Kestra was young and unable to properly pronounce her name. With everyone else she either goes by her full name or simply "Kes".

 

Interests: Kestra has always been fascinated by religion and has made a study of it her private hobby. She also enjoys various forms of calisthenics and is always eager to try out a new program. She carries over a love of cooking from her father. When she was younger, they used to spend hours experimenting with a recipe from a different culture each week. More recently Kestra has taken up an interest in bartending at the Red Star Nightclub.
