Dinner for Two, Please

Matt patiently waited at the table in the corner. He began to twiddle his thumbs; it was evident that he was nervous. But he can’t be nervous, a man shouldn’t be nervous. It was a date, a dinner, a man should have confidence, he thought to himself. Just be yourself, the words ran through his head. Don’t be too fancy, don’t act like you own it all, just be yourself. Over and over again the words repeated.

T’Parek entered the mess hall.

Vank gazed at her. He took a deep breathe as she approached the table. “T….T’Parek.” Matt stuttered.

T’Parek cocked an eyebrow. “Ensign Vank,” she replied. T’Parek analyzed the table, observing the design of the table cloth. It was fancy, T’Parek didn’t understand why Humans needed a fancy cloth, any regular cloth would have sufficed. T’Parek pulled out the seat and sat down gently.

Matt spoke friendly, “We’re off duty, we don’t have to call each other by rank now. I wasn’t sure what you would like, so I got the chef to cook up something special. It’s human food, but it bares a great taste. I think you’ll have no problem with the cuisine.”

T’parek glanced at the wine glass in front of her, “No Doubt you put effort into this.” Matt smiled and awaited the chef to bring over the order.

The Chef appeared out of no where, bringing 2 large plates over to the table. The Chef placed down the plates and utensils. He winked at Matt, and then smiled at T’Parek. Chef began to trot away as Matt and T’Parek glanced at their plates

Matt grabbed his fork, made a lovely smile at T’parek, then dug his fork into the meal. “It’s fettuccini,” he stated. T’Parek shifted her eyes downward at the meal, it appeared sufficient enough for a vulcan. She picked up the utensil and began to eat the fettuccini. “ I didn’t know Vulcans has taste buds,” Matt joked. Ok that was pointless, Vulcans and humour don’t mix.

T’Parek picked at her meal, eating it bit by bit. Matt noticed that his bread needed Chef’s good ole’ jam. So Matt quickly got up and excused himself from the table. He approached the chef. “You forgot my jam,” he stated. Chef sighed and handed over the bowl of jam. Matt speedily walked back to the table. As he entered a metre within the table, he lunged forward. The bowl of jam tossed upward in the air, landing straight on T’Parek. What the? How did I just fall?

Matt immediately jumped to his feet, feeling embarrassed, but concerned about T’Parek. “T…T’Parek, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened. I was walking this way and … I fell. Let me clean that up for you,” Matt stuttered.

“It’s not necessary, it’s just jam. It can easily be washable. It appears you tripped over that thick lining in the carpet.” T’Parek said.

“Don’t worry, I’ll clean it up for you.” He replied. Matt stretched out his arms to grab a cloth. Moving it across to where the jam was sliding down T’Parek’s chest. He slowly put the cloth down onto her chest and stomach, gently wiping off the sticky jam. This is extremely weird. To Matt, it felt a bit sexual. “There. It looks clean, most likely a bit sticky.”

T’Parek looked downward at her uniform. She took a quick observation and catalogued this event in her mind. She resumed eating her dinner.

The bright young ensign said, “Your skin feels so smooth.” T’Parek stopped eating, she engaged in a stare at Matt. Oh my, what did I just say? Matt in his head was banging his head on the wall. T’Parek slowly replied “indeed”.

“Again I am so sorry. This must be really weird for you. It’s a hormone thing in men, I should’ve kept that to myself. But when hormones kick in, we men say what we think, and end up not thinking,” Vank quickly stated.

T’Parek nodded to gesture “very interesting”. It seemed Neither of them were in the mood for desert, the dinner was more of a tragedy then what Matt thought. Matt began to finish up his dinner, “Well I guess this is it.”

Well this was certainly…interesting,” T’Parek said. She got up out of her chair. This was the end, it could’ve been betterMatt thought. “Yes it was, perhaps next time we should have dinner some place more excluded. I’d love to do this again some time. Get to know each other, eh. Should we set up something?” Matt questioned.

T’Parek replied, “That would be interesting. We should set up a time within the next few days. I have a science report to get finished. I must leave. Also to add, I’m not sure if travelling to the science lab during duty is necessary.”

Matt nodded, "Bye." …honey..
