What Kind of Pets?

What pet(s), if any, does everyone have? Tell us all about 'em or any funny stories. ;)

I have a 1 year old cat named Molly. She is completely black with light green eyes.

A person I worked with contacted me knowing I was interested in a kitten. A neighbor of this employee had some kittens. I first saw Molly when she was just 4 weeks old, and her two gray littermates. Out of the three, I knew Molly was "mine". Today, Molly is a goofy, sweet cat, who loves to "talk" with various purrs, mews, and meows. She is an indoor cat. Oh yes, and I get some of my best Caitian stuff from her!

I have two dogs, Leonard (yes, named after everyone's favorite doctor.) and Stormy. Basically both were going to be homeless dogs that I took in and now I love them both to pieces ;)

Sheesh, are we rehashing this tired old topic again? Let me save you the trouble.

EVERYONE in STSF has cats except for Marks and me, and I just found out about Marks now. ;)

We always had dogs at home so I definitely prefer dogs to cats. My mother just got another one from an animal shelter. His name's Jack and he eats everything but dog food. When I grew up I couldn't imagine ever living without a dog but unfortunately I don't have time for one now. It's just not a good idea to have a dog when you're not home for up to 12 hours a day.

My family recently got a black pomeranian. It's really the first pet we've had, and everyone is obsessed with him. I also occasionally volunteer at a pet shelter with my sister, so I just want to say thanks to everyone who adopts. There are some really darling animals that have been treated poorly and I'm glad there are people who are willing to take them in and love them. We need more people like that in the world!

I've a maltese named Sandy. Good smart dog, albeit very yappy. (Barks at everyone and everything). But I guess those small little doggies are naturally yappy so.. ;)

lol, they say that in studies, small yappy dogs keep more house burglers away than bigger, less-yappy dogs.

I am currently dog-less and enjoy the freedom that brings, although two siamese need almost as much attention as a dog does anyway... In the past we've had retired greyhounds, which are basically very lovable farting floor rugs. They're worthless watchdogs. (I live on a highway a mile from a motor speedway - watchdog is a very good thing to have). We'll be looking for another dog sometime next summer, and I'm torn between something very small that is easy to wash and exercise, or a dobie-o-matic with brains, beauty, and watchdogability. We'll probably go for small and easy. Though the cats might terrorize it. I guess that would be considered exercise, right?

The cats are Henry and Hector, and I'll spare you the pictures and long gushy descriptions, haha.

Hey there,

When I was younger, I had a cat...though it died before I was ten.

skipper.jpg

This past March, my best friend on this planet died after what we believe to be two strokes. I struggle to call him a dog, since in many ways he was the one allowing us to live within this house. Named Skipper, he was a Lhasa Apso. Before he grew old, he was almost completely black except for white near his paws and his chest. As one might expect, given his age, most of the black had given way to gray to the point only a small section of his head could really be called black. Most folks I know have remarked that they never met a nicer animal in their lives. My folks had given him to me when I was little and almost I honestly have a very hard time remembering a time before he was with me. He was about two months old when this moving Christmas gift arrived. Sad thing was, that year I had been hoping for a computer monitor. I'm glad I didn't get it.

Recent times had not been exactly kind to my friend, who was completely blind and sufferring severe back problems. He had been in numerous fights with another dog we have had in the house named Teddy. Also a Lhasa, she has always been somewhat jealous for attention so what can you do?

In any event, my best friend died around 10:25am on March 9th. He was 15 years, 4 months old.

At present, the only pets I still have are several fish...one called Mr. Pig. He's about 6 or 7 years old at this point.

I have a mini daschund named mollie (I like my spelling better Kansas ;) ). She is three years old and the original walrus. We call her that because when you sit down and she wants to sit with you, she backs up and gets a running start and really just throws herself at you. At times it is kinda freaky. 12lbs. of fur flying at you can kinda spaz you out and lets just say she has come at my head one to many times. Also her theme song is cry baby by janis joplin. Gosh I love that dog to death but it really makes me mad when she sits at the door and cries cause someone just left. Well thats my dog.

Losing a friend, who just happens to have fur, is REALLY hard. All of us pet lovers here know what you felt (and are feeling) Fred. It takes some time.

My first cat, Daisy, a Calico, was 19 years old when I finally had to make the decision to put her to sleep in May 2002. I rec'd her for a birthday gift when I was 9 years old. What a best friend she was. I can't even type into words how much she meant to me.

About one year after Daisy, I got a new kitten - Misty - from a shelter. Unfortunately, after 3 months, this kitten did not work out. She would not purr, or return affection of any kind, showed no expression's the way cats do, and she would just up and bite me. I do believe that she was born a feral cat, or she possibly had some mental problems. She just did not act like a normal kitten, and my family really did work with her. She was returned to the shelter.

Six months later - enter Molly (I dont know Dr. Porter - I like MY spelling. ;) ). I was really unsure about trying this again after the last kitten. All my fears were blown out of the water the first week I had this little furball - especially one morning when she showed up sleeping outside my room in the same exact spot that Daisy used to frequent. I was told by a family friend that maybe that was Daisy giving her "blessing". A sweet, goofy, friendly kitten has now matured into a sweet, goofy, friendly cat who is a wonderful buddy. ;)

My first cat named Zion lived to be almost 13 years old before passing away mysteriously about 5 or 6 years ago.

Now I have two cats, Moses and Gideon, who spend most of their days sleeping, as do most teenagers, coincidentally.

My family has never been dog people. In fact, we have a running family joke that dogs were the only animals created after the Fall, and not by God. This is a belief that was conceptualized by my father, an ordained minister. ;)

Anyway, I've had a few fish and an anole (named speedy) in my lifetime. I remember one funny occasion when my fish Caruso died. My family held a funeral service in the bathroom and commerated the occasion with taps. Then after the ceremony, we flushed him down the toilet. The funny part was, after flushing him...two minutes later he resurfaced. I'll never forget that...he came back to say goodbye. ;)

No cats, dogs or other allergens here. :-)

I've killed a couple of fish, though. Maybe it was my singing.

Im not a large dog fan.... I seriously do not know why cause we've had 2 dogs but they were always outside though and a cat that was inside (probally why im a cat person)

Anyway we have 4 cats Sock Becca ralph and Eek (yes the cartoon) and the estranged dogs ( i dont go near them really too hyper for me)

Eek acts like a baby and always wants my mom to hold him and rock him and I think he gets jealous when she's playing with my daughter

We did have 5 cats but living in the country accidents happen but naming your cat Possum makes matters worse o_O

I grew up in a dog family, but I lived in apartments during my college years. I didn't really want to get a dog without having a place for him to run around in (plus I travelled a lot to visit family), but I still wanted something to keep me company.

So I got Felix, a tuxedo kitty that constantly lays on me, wants me to chase him around the house, and sits on the entertainment center meowing his orders for catnip.

Next was Tiger, because Felix needed someone to keep him company while I was away. Tiger is the hunter who drowns his toy prey in the water dish, fusses at us when we sneeze, and kneads with the best of them.

Betsy was a stray that I found outside a few years ago. She is attention-starved and follows me throughout the house. She's also a bully who will beat up the other cats when I give them attention (but they do fight back). She will chase sunlight and car headlight reflections along the wall.

All 3 were shelter kitties. I would get a dog now that I have my own house, but Felix and Betsy have proven that having a dog would never work out. But all my friends have dogs, and seeing them is enough for me.
