my first academy

hey everyone

I had my first academy last night (Sunday 4/30) and I just wanted to say a couple of things about it ...

First off I had a lot of fun--definitely more than I thought I would. Everyone was friendly and it was nice to just see everyone having fun.

It moved much faster than I thought it would. You should warn people about that! People were good about bringing me back in when I was lost though, which kept me from being frustrated. I'm not sure if this is really the thing for me, but I'm going to give it a few more tries. I guess I just wanted to say that regardless of whether I keep doing this or not, everyone made it a really good experience so thank you!

Hello and welcome! Glad you enjoyed your first sim with us!

The speed is overwhelming to just about everyone at first, but you adjust a lot faster than you'd think. And it's good for you -- my typing speed doubled back when I first got into simming! :P It helps if you don't try to follow everything your first couple times through; just watch for the people you're in the same 'room' with -- bridge, sickbay, engineering, whatever. Then you can sorta 'zoom out' with practice.

Hope to see you around! ;)

Glad you enjoyed it.. Don't forget also to branch out and try other positions too, to get a "feel" for each position and to find one that you'd like to do on an Advanced Sim, since the easier and more desireable bridge positions are usually (But not always) taken on advanced sims. Might be a bit early, but.. yeah.. catch a few of the advanced sims in actions to get a feel for the simming style. It'll help make your chosing an advanced sim to be on that much easier. (Or you can be like me, and just join all the ones you like :P )

Yes, I was lost a lot to when I first started but like every one else, you get the hang of it soon. Then main thing is to have fun. It gets better. :P

Typing rapidly and accurately, thinking creatively, remembering Star Trek details, reading comments from the: ACTION, CO, XO, your Chief, and co-Assistants, remembering the briefing and roster, remembering the Rules & Tips From the Moose, trying to handle the stray PM, looking for your designation (ASCI) so you know when to respond back, enjoying reading your own comments, etc...

Did I miss anything?

Talk about multi-tasking!

Working an NPC (or several, as I have done before) can also be quite...interesting, for lack of a better word. The ultimate test in multitasking. Not only are you looking out for all that, you're looking out for in for more than one character and typing for both.
