Cool Vulcan

I am new to this

Hello, I am Cool Vulcan, the owner of Star Trek International. I am not too good with RPG's and I am hoping to get some advice and maybe a feel of an idea of how to form a crew and have a general Star Trek community. Can anyone help?

Welcome to STSF, Cool Vulcan. I don't think you'll find a lot of advice on how to create a Star Trek community when you ask on the message boards of a Star Trek community. We like what we have here, why not join us and have fun! You can sim in the Academy and get your RPG experience and then join one of our crews. We'd love to see you join us, thanks.

Cool Vulcan,

First off, welcome to STSF! I agree with A9 here, whatever you eventually decide to do, STSF is a great place to find your roots in online Star Trek simming. The one thing that makes STSF so unique is that we ARE a vibrant Star Trek community, one of a handful on the web. So, no matter how long you're here, I hope you enjoy yourself!

No you don't get me. I know how to run a message board, but what would the general lay out for a RPG section. I need advice on whats the dos and don'ts. I have the ships name and registry. It needs a crew and a Captain with expiriance.

Thank you for the welcome. :P

Welcome to STSF. Sorry, I don't know anything about setting up an RPG board. Not too interested in joining another sim either, but hope to see you around the academy and the boards here. Anyways, welcome again and have fun. :P

Hi Cool Vulcan,

If you're looking for a how-to guide for setting up a sim, this is the wrong forum - you probably want to look for a public game-masters' chat room or website - and if you're looking for recruiting new players to your sim, this is definitely the wrong forum, as we do not allow recruiting on our boards.

That said, I don't think you can just jump into the world of RPG's and set up a simming forum. It takes a lot more to run and play a good game than getting together a group of people with a ship name and registry. In fact, IMHO, it would be impossible to run an RPG of any kind, whether it's Star Trek or Star Wars, LOTR, etc, without having played in a working one for a good deal of time. Ideally, one would also have prior experience as a game master oneself. That way, you can learn from what others have done right, and not make the same mistakes as they did.

You are, of course, welcome to observe and/or play in our games. STSF Academy games are open to all players, regardless of experience. There is a schedule on our website. Should you decide to play, please see our help section, which gives a primer on our simming conventions.
