new to RPG

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the Academy forum or here, but seeing as how I haven't even tried the Academy yet ...

I've never done any sort of RPG before and I felt that even the "help" section of the site didn't fully prepare me. Are there any particular posts I can search for that may help more? I'm pretty well versed in Star Trek, I just don't understand the whole online role-playing thing but I really want to be involved. I'd appreciate any tips. Sorry if this is too vague!

Welcome to STSF.net (not to be confused with STSF.com). Others will be along shortly and tell you what to look at. In the meantime, you should probably know that the secret to simming is to have fun, and the secret word is "coconut".

I was brand new the the RPG world too before I started coming here a few weeks ago. Watching sims and reading previous chat logs are a good way to get started. I bascially jumped right into my first sim and had no problems adjusting to it. The Academies are there for you to get used to using the RPG syntax and the people in those Academies are wonderful and will help you in every way imaginable.

It's a bit daunting at first, but I'm sure you'll catch on quickly. I found that just going through the Help and Rules sections, as well as reading up on the different advanced sims here, helped me more than anything.

Good luck, welcome to STSF and I hope to see you at the academies. You can also PM me if you need anything.

Good morning and welcome to STSF.

I know how you feel it's been pretty much the same for me when I first came here. That was only a month or two ago. Now I feel like I've never done anything else but simming...ok not true but it gets a whole lot easier after only a few Academy sims. So just go there have fun and you'll learn automatically.

Hope to see you around!

Nick

Thanks for all the quick responses! I already feel better and I'm really looking forward to trying this out. I'm reading up on all the tip posts you guys referenced and it's slowly building a picture of what this is all about.

Oh, and I'm glad you caught my name ... it's so nice being around Star Trek fans and having people appreciate the small things! Why didn't I do this before?

Gee, nobody has offered up the Tips from the Moose yet? Well, there you go and the Help and Rules sections are good, too. The best thing to do is stop by an Academy and see how fun and relaxed it can be to kil... train the cadets.

Hello and Welcome to STSF. This is a good crew here.

Only thing you need to watch out for is the T'Venus SFly'Trap - it was brought here by the Rihannsu and placed in the Lobby - it snaps.

Check out the Moose Tips, Help, and Rules sections. Once you do venture into an academy, the GM's and fellow players are great helpers. And you have fun at the same time, so it's all good.

And don't believe all these crazy rumors about cadets getting killed by the GM's in the acad...**AHHHHHHHH** **MRRPHHHHH** !!!

<ACTION> Kansas is attacked by the T'Venus SFy'Trap

Cya in the Academies. :P

Academy Cadets are welcome to post logs of their adventures in the STSF Academy folder of Ten-Forward Lounge. If we have enough interest in it, we'll be glad to create a folder for Academy sim logs.

Most advaced sims encourage log writing, and you can read their adventures in the log folders of each advanced ship. If Cadets would like to try their had at logs (it's not a requirement for graduation, but fun to do!) they are welcome to post them!
