Lost in Transition

Duty Log Stardate 0504.28

Lt.jg. Arthur Dent

-------------------------------------

A lot of things seem to get lost along the way. Articles of clothing, a favourite knick-knack, that recipe for a really spicy Bolian stew. Some of these things are lost en route, never to be seen or thought of again. Others are lost, but when remembered, they are missed.

Dent dug through his quarters trying to find one such thing. He turned his wardrobe inside out and even went through the containers of effects that he had in storage. At the end of the day, however, he had not found the object of his search. It seemed that he had forgotten it at the Academy. Dent regretted losing the sentimentally valuable possession, but there really wasn’t much he could do about it.

Resigned about its disappearance, Dent stood up and looked around his deranged quarters and silently realized that he would have to clean them. As Dent went through the task of sorting his clothing, replacing it in the wardrobe, and then reorganizing his other possessions, his mind turned to other thoughts. For instance, their ‘covert mission’ seemed to have been lost along the way, overridden by more immediate concerns, such as the Cardassian Prime Minister’s troubling announcement. Postponing the elections was a cautious move, but perhaps not a wise one in this hotbed of tension.

What Dent wondered was why Aegis was not more directly involved. After all, was not that Aegis’ purpose? Perhaps that too had become blurred by time’s inexorable march, and diluted by power plays on both sides. One thing was for certain, and that was that Dent’s choice of assignments was not the best. Events that would shape the political climate in the Alpha Quadrant were coming to a head, and Dent was right in the middle of it.
